Condos, townhouses and homes, old and new
Homes in this area are often traditional-style, combining modern design with elements of classic architecture. Single-family homes in Northwest Cary range from $450,000 to $850,000, varying by age and square footage. “We like to keep our trees,” Douglas says. “Even though there is new development, when you’re driving through Northwest Cary, you can tell that some of the homes are older and some of them are newer. But the amount of trees and greenways we have on this side of town are incredible.” Apartment complexes offer convenient locations and modern amenities, while those looking to buy a home can check out one of the many townhouse developments or residential subdivisions.A downtown park and many green hiking trails
Northwest Cary contains some of the town's more than 80 miles of interconnected greenways. The Morris Branch Greenway runs for 2 miles and connects to nearby Neighborhood Park on McCrimmon, which opened in 2024. And right by Panther Creek High, residents can jump on the Nancy Branch Greenway for wooded trails leading to other nearby subdivisions. Downtown Cary Park is an attraction for both residents and visitors from nearby cities, like Raleigh. “The great thing is there’s a little something for everybody,” Douglas says. "Not only is it a park, but it’s a concert venue. It’s got really good playgrounds for the kids, and there are two mini dog parks, one for big dogs, one for small dogs.” While their pets are socializing, owners can check out The Bark Bar, an open-air pavilion serving beverages and snacks.Wake County Schools support fine arts
Wake County Schools serve Northwest Cary, and school zones vary throughout the area. Nearby in-network options like Mills Park Elementary and Mills Park Middle School share a campus, and both hold overall A ratings from Niche. The community is home to Panther Creek High School, which receives an A-plus Niche rating. “They’re some of the best schools in the state,” Douglas says. “People will fight over getting a Cary address to get into a Cary school.” The high school includes an award-winning arts program. Their dance, vocal music and band fine arts paths require an audition or portfolio as part of the admissions process.Arts and crafts celebrations downtown
The Lazy Daze Festival brings artisans and crafters from around the world to downtown Cary. A smaller version of the festival happens in the spring. The park also keeps a full event calendar. “They always do special programming at the park. So just check the weekend, and they’ve got something going on,” Douglas says. “This past weekend, they had a May the Fourth Be With You event with a dog costume contest, Kylo Ren and activities for the kids.”Triangle Expressway runs beside Northwest Cary
Driving is the best way to get around in Northwest Cary, as the neighborhood is bordered by the Triangle Expressway, a major toll road simplifying commutes through the greater Raleigh-Durham area. “It’s probably one of the most convenient locations in all of Wake County,” Douglas says. “You could even say in all of the Triangle." Downtown Raleigh is a 17.5-mile commute.Groceries and dining at Alston Town Center
Alston Town Center is a business park with chain restaurants like Moe’s Southwest Grill, as well as local establishments including Urban Angeethi Indian Restaurant & Bar, serving authentic South Asian cuisine and cocktails. It also contains Whole Foods for grocery shopping. About 6 miles east of Northwest Cary is Park West Village. This strip mall features Ross, Target and T.J. Maxx, among many other name-brand restaurants and shopping options. Downtown Cary is a popular spot for both boutiques and breweries. “Fifteen years ago, if someone told me I would go to downtown Cary to hang out, I would have laughed,” Douglas says. “Now, on a Friday or Saturday night, you are most definitely watching for pedestrians, because people are just out and about everywhere.”
