Chantilly

Mature trees shade bungalows and Craftsman homes
Small lending libraries and towering trees line the streets in Chantilly. Neighbors live relatively close together — lot sizes are generally around ¼ acre, enough room for a backyard patio. “It’s one of Charlotte’s older neighborhoods, and the streetscape is primarily classic bungalow construction,” says Larsen. Other common styles include Craftsman and ranch styles, with prices ranging from approximately $429,000 for a two-bedroom ranch-style home to upwards of $2 million for a five-bedroom custom-built home. Townhouses range from $550,000 to $630,000. Chantilly feels remote and private despite its convenient location. In no other adjacent neighborhood to Uptown will you find no cut-through streets to get to another neighborhood,” Layne says. “It is truly an insulated location that feels like suburbia just underneath the skyscrapers of the city.”Garinger High helping students earn scholarships
Elizabeth Traditional Elementary serves kindergarten through fifth-grade students and receives a B-minus on Niche. For pre-kindergarten through Grade 6, students can attend Chantilly Montessori, which receives an A-minus from Niche. Admission to the school is available through the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Magnet Program Lottery. Eastway Middle and Garinger High both earn C’s. The Garinger Education Foundation helps provide scholarship opportunities to graduating students and works to enhance the education environment through new initiatives. They’ve partnered with Central Piedmont Community College to create the Tuition Grant program. An Italian bakery and Cajun cuisine on 7th Street
Although Chantilly is mostly residential, several local eateries are within walking distance of homes. Villani’s Bakery offers New York-Italian-style macarons and other treats. Near Independence Park, Catalina Kitchen + Bar serves coastal comfort food like fresh fish tacos and tagliatelle with scallops. There’s also Cajun Queen on 7th Street, where residents can order authentic New Orleans-style dishes like seafood gumbo. Across U.S. Route 74 are grocery stores, including Harris Teeter and Common Market, a bar and convenience store combo. However, the area surrounding Chantilly is still expanding. “About a five-minute walk away is a small neighborhood being built right now called The Commonwealth that will add so much more development and appreciation to these neighborhoods,” Layne says. “It will include high-end restaurants and boutique shops.”Chantilly Neighborhood Association and The Bojangles Coliseum
The Chantilly Neighborhood Association hosts community events, including Halloween Parades, 5k races, food trucks and yard sales. Less than 2 miles from Chantilly is the Bojangles Coliseum or the BOplex, an event venue that hosts everything from touring Broadway shows to the American Hockey League’s Charlotte Checkers. The Mint Museum — which has one uptown location and one Randolph Road location — has centuries-old and modern art from around the world. On Saturday mornings, they offer yoga on the lawn.Playgrounds, splash pads and viewing the skyline at Independence Park
The community’s namesake Chantilly Park borders Briar Creek in the southernmost part of the neighborhood. there are two different playgrounds and spaces for walking dogs. It’s part of the Chantilly Ecological Sanctuary, which has a beach volleyball court and a three-hole disc golf course. However, the facility does not have a designated parking lot or public restrooms. Just outside the neighborhood is Veterans Park, home to outdoor gym equipment and a splash pad. There’s also Independence Park, a 24-acre urban expanse founded in 1924. It has views of the Charlotte skyline, a 300-seat stadium and athletic fields.Public buses, a light rail train and the Charlotte Douglas International Airport
Chantilly is bordered by U.S. Route 74, locally known as Andrew Jackson Highway. Although residents can make use of the Charlotte Area Transit System, or CATS, which includes the LYNX light rail train and over 20 bus routes throughout the Charlotte metro area, Larsen says locals tend to use ride-sharing apps like Uber to travel into Uptown, around 3-mile drive. The Charlotte Douglas International Airport, which offers nonstop service to 180 unique destinations, is about 12 miles or 25 minutes from the neighborhood. The Charlotte Amtrak Station has the Carolinian train that goes up the East Coast all the way to New York City. About a mile outside the heart of Chantilly is Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, offering everything from 24/7 emergency services to maternity and neonatal intensive care. Nearby is Atrium Health Mercy, a tertiary acute care facility.Crime
Chantilly’s CAP Index crime score is 4 out of 10, on par with the national average of 4.
