Lockwood puts restaurants, shops and Uptown within easy reach
Lockwood is an evolving neighborhood outside Charlotte’s Center City where new builds are rising between long-standing homes. Developed in the early 20th century near manufacturing plants, it sits between two of the city’s most prominent adaptive-reuse projects, Camp North End and Optimist Hall, putting residents steps from dozens of trendy restaurants and shops. Short commutes to Uptown, access to public transportation and a handful of nearby parks add to this enclave’s appeal.
Even the streets are full of art in the Lockwood neighborhood.

A blend of original homes, brand-new builds and apartments
The neighborhood’s residential heart is tucked away from busier streets with wide roads, sidewalks and a few blocks of houses shaded by mature trees. You’ll find Craftsman bungalows, cottages and ranch-style homes from the early to mid-20th century mixing with larger Craftsman-inspired transitionals and modern townhouses built in recent years. “Lockwood was overlooked for many years, but now it’s very up-and-coming,” says Jennifer Monroe, a Realtor with Compass. Renters vastly outnumber homeowners here because the neighborhood has far more apartments than single-family homes.
Many of the homes in Lockwood are older and have been well-maintained.

Home prices range from entry-level to luxury
Lockwood’s median sale price of $560,000 is above Charlotte ’s, which hovers around $430,000. Detached homes usually cost between the upper $200,000s and the upper $600,000s. However, high-end new construction can exceed $1 million. Townhouses rarely go on the market, with no units sold in recent years. “There aren’t many properties for sale,” says Brandy Warner, a realtor with Nestlwood Realty. "People often don’t leave once they move in.” You’ll find similar prices in Optimist Park and lower prices in Greenville and Tryon Hills.
Walk, drive, bike or bus to Uptown
One of the neighborhood’s biggest draws is its proximity to Uptown, which is less than 2 miles away. You can walk or drive straight down North Tryon or North Graham streets, or if you want to avoid paying for parking, you can bike or catch a CATS bus. Interstates 277 and 77 are close by for commutes to other job hubs around Charlotte, and the closest LYNX Blue Line light rail station is about a mile away on Parkwood Avenue.
