Whiteoak
Suburban Neighborhood in Charlotte, North Carolina
Mecklenburg County 28277
Refined homes and townhouses
Residential communities branch off Endhaven Lane, the neighborhood’s main connector. Streets tend to be wide enough to accommodate some road parking, with sidewalks occasionally appearing on the edges of lawns. Most homes follow Cape Cod and Colonial Revival architectural designs, with brick or vinyl siding, arched entryways, rectangular columns and spacious, tree-decorated front lawns. Prices typically vary between $400,000 and $800,000. Homes in Whiteoak’s gated community of Ivy Hall are usually on the middle to higher end of this spectrum. Townhouses can be found off Endhaven Village Drive, selling for anywhere from $300,000 to $600,000.Exploring backyard parks and playing the back nine
Lindsay Patton, a Realtor with The Redbud Group who has almost 2 years of experience in real estate, recommends visiting Ballantyne’s Backyard, a sprawling green space with fields for running around and ponds for catch-and-release fishing just south of Interstate 485. “They even have daily food trucks parked in the area for walkers and business professionals,” Patton says. Locals can also get their daily steps in at Four Mile Creek Greenway, which links to a greater network of trails, such as Lower McAlpine Creek Greenway. “My office is right by the trail, and I always see people using it to walk or bike,” Belcher says. “There’s an entrance by Trader Joe’s, and you’ll often see people going on the trail from there.” A different type of green can be found on the golf course at Carmel Country Club, which Club Leaders of America distinguishes as a Platinum Club of America. The club also offers other amenities such as tennis courts, a driving range and a restaurant and hosts regular events such as a “Family Bingo Night.”Excellent schools, with another on the way
Endhaven Elementary, located on its namesake road, is within 2 miles of Whiteoak homes. Thanks to abundant sidewalks and a pedestrian crossing, the school is easily walkable. Kids can then move up to South Charlotte Middle and South Mecklenburg High. At the high school’s South Meck World Language Academy magnet program, the largest in the state, students take seven classes in a target language such as Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese and American Sign Language. Endhaven Elementary receives a B-plus from Niche, while South Charlotte Middle and South Mecklenburg High earn A-minuses. A new high school, Ballantyne Ridge High, is on the way to relieve overcrowding at schools like South Mecklenburg High and Ardrey Kell High. This new school will be located right in Whiteoak.Seasonal festivities at Ballantyne’s Backyard
Food vendors, oompah bands and a ton of beverages come to Ballantyne’s Backyard for Oktoberfest. During Christmastime, the park glows with seasonal lights and displays, including giant snow globes. The International Arts Festival is another highlight, bringing fun, creative and interactive exhibits to the park, as well as Uptown Charlotte.
Hopping on the interstate is a breeze
All residents are within 2 miles of an entrance ramp to Interstate 485. Charlotte Douglas International Airport is about 22 miles up the interstate. Uptown is about 13 miles north, and residents can expect heavy traffic at peak hours. SouthPark Mall is 7 miles north.Whiteoak residents love shopping and dining
Toringdon Market and Toringdon Circle shopping centers are on the west side of the neighborhood, featuring restaurants and boutiques. Midwood Smokehouse serves up brisket burnt ends and other barbecue favorites, while Viva Chicken brings rotisserie chicken, fried yucca and Peruvian cuisine from the streets of Lima right to Whiteoak. Big-box stores including Harris Teeter and Target can be found at StoneCrest, along with a Regal movie theater. The Bowl at Ballantyne is a mixed-use development on the verge of completion right by Ballantyne’s Backyard. The Bowl will bring additional shops and restaurants, along with an amphitheater and a pedestrian bridge linking the center to Stream Park.
