Edinburgh is a newer planned community in Great Bridge

Edinburgh is newer, planned community in the Great Bridge section of Chesapeake offering single-family homes close to shopping centers. While some homes in the area were built in the mid-1900s, Edinburgh has seen most of its development take place in the past 25 years. Forests and farmland make up most of the space between planned communities and secluded suburbs. “It’s a really beautiful area and it’s seen a lot of growth,” says Lina Mercer, owner of the Lina Mercer Real Estate Group, who grew up and still lives in the area.

Contemporary-style homes built in the past 25 years

Homebuyers can find contemporary-style homes built in the 2000s with modestly sized front and backyards. Houses feature wide driveways and attached garages. Some also have in-ground pools. Homes are still being built in the neighborhood as of March 2025. Smaller homes typically sell for $600,000 to $1 million, while larger properties go for $1.3 million to $1.7 million. There’s also The Cottages at Edinburgh, a collection of new 55-plus homes that sell for $600,000 to $700,000. The CAP Index gives Edinburgh a crime score of 2 out of 10, which is below the national average of 4.
