Mount Greenwood is full of brick bungalow, Georgian and New Traditional homes, and you can find the occasional Tudor-inspired or raised-ranch homes. Prices range from the upper $100,000s to the lower $800,000s. Many houses were built in the early to mid-1900s, and some homeowners have done full renovations to modernize their spaces. Single-family homes are the majority, but there are also some condo options, and they can sell from around $70,000 to $200,000. “This area is very sought after, because it has a lot of homes that are well taken care of,” says Realtor Brandon Rodriguez with Corona Homes Team. “But I would say it’s also because of great accessibility to downtown, whether you drive or take public transportation.”
Commuting about 30 minutes to downtown by train or car
Rodriguez points out that when residents want to get around, “Mount Greenwood has Metra stops close by on the Rock Island Line, at 111th and 115th streets.” You can park at one of the stations before taking a roughly 30-minute train ride to downtown. Chicago Transit Authority buses also pass through the neighborhood and make stops near the 111th Street station. People who prefer to drive the nearly 20 miles to downtown use nearby Interstates 57 and 94 for most of the trip. Traffic is a part of daily life on the interstates, so it can take around 30 minutes to reach the city center.

Public and private school options in Mount Greenwood
The neighborhood is part of Chicago Public Schools, so students might attend Mount Greenwood Elementary School, which gets a B-plus from Niche. The A-rated Marist High School is a private option in the neighborhood here, as well as the A-rated Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School, which shares a campus with the private Saint Xavier University, rated B-minus.

Spanning over 50 acres, Mount Greenwood Park is a neighborhood hub for activity year-round. In the summer, visitors can cool off in the swimming pool, and in the winter, the ice rink draws skaters. The park also features multiple baseball diamonds and tennis courts, along with a large playground and spray pool. For a different kind of outdoor experience, you might visit Wolfe Wildlife Park in nearby Oak Lawn. The park has around 45 acres of natural wetlands with paved walking and biking paths. People watch for birds at the observation deck, and families let their kids run around the playground.

Locally owned dining and shopping along West 111th Street
Rodriguez mentions that most residents usually end up making a short drive for shopping and dining. “You’re not far from Evergreen Park, which borders to the north, and that has places to shop,” Rodriguez says. When you want to dine out closer to home, though, you have locally owned spots down West 111th Street, like:
Bacon & Jam, a modern diner with creative breakfast and lunch plates
Grant's Wonderburger, a 1950s-style burger joint with craft beer, cocktails and smash burgers
S&T Provisions, an Italian deli and market that offers house-made sandwiches, cured meats and imported Italian goods
Shops on 111th Street are also locally owned, from the South Side Irish Imports gift shop to the Newborn Apothecary baby boutique. When you need groceries, there’s a Jewel-Osco on West 103rd Street and another location in nearby Marionette Park.

Everyone is a city worker so you are always safe. You actually get to know your neighbors and everyone looks out for one another and bands together in times of need. I wish there were more restaurants to eat at, but I love all of the local joints we currently have.
