Dining down Cumberland Avenue and exploring Fashion Outlets of Chicago

O'Hare's restaurants are mostly along Cumberland Avenue, and many are locally owned spots with a few chain restaurants mixed in. Some of the more popular restaurants are:

  • Elly's Brunch & Cafe, a regional chain that serves breakfast and lunch dishes, as well as coffee and fresh pastries
  • Velour Restaurant, known for its Ukrainian dishes and maybe even more so for its specialty desserts
  • The Blossom Cafe, where you can order comfort food for breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Taco Moro, a busy Mexican restaurant with a full menu of customizable options
Cumberland Avenue also has a few places to shop, like the Jewel-Osco grocery store and Walgreens. You're a quick drive or bus ride from a busy shopping center, though. “You’ve got the Fashion Outlets of Chicago for reasonable prices on all sorts of designer brands,” says Holly Wolack, Realtor with Christie's International Real Estate. “And the Parkway Bank Park Entertainment District, which has about a dozen high-end and casual bars and restaurants, plus Zanies Comedy Club — my favorite — and a dine-in movie theater, bowling alley and indoor sky diving.”

Parks and trail networks offer year-round outdoor activity

While O'Hare is known for its proximity to the airport and corporate offices, the neighborhood also has immediate access to sprawling natural landscapes. Catherine Chevalier Woods and Schiller Woods connect to the Des Plaines River Trail System, an extensive network of unpaved trails that follows the river through more than a dozen forest preserves, with opportunities for long hikes, bike rides and cross-country skiing in winter. For a more traditional park experience, Grandparents Park has a playground, while the Brickton and Southwest parks have baseball diamonds.
