Citrus in the Sunshine State

Citrus Park steps in and out of rural Florida, offering a suburban landscape with a deep connection to the environment. Palm trees and tropical plants act as natural ornamentations throughout the year, but the houses grow spirited with seasonal holiday decorations. The sunny Floridian weather entices locals to indulge in gardening and take daily strolls through the neighborhood streets. "More than anything, it's a great location," says Mena Reyes, a Realtor with RE/MAX Realty Group Inc. "It's very convenient, with access to the airport, highways and nearby beaches." The first homes in the area were built in the early 1990s when the county approved plans for a master-planned community spanning 10 square miles. The neighborhood is surrounded by mature oaks, lakes and ponds, providing a more serene natural environment.

Getting around

Veterans Expressway runs through the neighborhood, making it easy for residents to commute to nearby Tampa areas. Commuters should be aware that it is a toll road and be prepared when driving. Access to a car is necessary in Citrus Park, as there aren't any bus stops in the area.

Variety of housing

Citrus Park is a network of subdivisions, with single-story homes occupying most of the residential streets. Some houses offer a more rustic atmosphere, with lawns adorned with oak trees and Spanish moss. Single-family homes with attached garages, ranch-style houses, townhomes and sprawling Mediterranean estates sit in front of the water behind private gates. Due to this variety of home styles, prices range from $100,000 to $2.4 million.

Wildlife and nature trails

Residents can visit Rocky Creek Trails Nature Preserve for a more explorative outdoor excursion. Guests are encouraged to bring a sketchpad, binoculars or a camera to document encounters with native wildlife. "A really popular spot is the Upper Tampa Bay Trail," says Johnathan Ruiz, a Realtor with La Rosa Realty and content creator for the LIVING IN TAMPA BAY FLORIDA YouTube channel. "It's about seven miles long and is great for just walking and taking in the outdoors. There's an entrance right off the Veterans Expressway, which cuts through Citrus Park, so it's pretty easy to get to."

The Breeze Ranch allows beginner and experienced riders to ride trained horses through nature trails and rent barnyard space for hayrides, bonfires and birthday parties. Visitors can also swim with the horses at the ranch's spring-fed creek. Residents can visit Zaksee Bird Sanctuary to experience even more wildlife. The sanctuary is a refuge for parrots and other exotic birds and an educational center for the public. Multiple local parks provide residents with green spaces, sheltered picnic areas and playgrounds. Logan Gate Dog Park grants pups a little escape, too. Local youth can join the Citrus Park Sports Association and participate in the local baseball league.

A world of entertainment under one roof

For a day of entertainment, locals head to ELEV8. "You go in there, and immediately to the left, there's a bowling alley, and then to the right, there's a nice bar and restaurant," says Ruiz. "It also has Tampa's only black light mini golf. Everything's lit up crazy, and if you go a bit further, there's a whole gaming and arcade experience. And then upstairs, there's a whole indoor go-kart experience and laser tag. The place has everything."
