Clinton draws people with small-town charm
A village surrounded by one of Michigan’s earliest roadways, the U.S. 12 Heritage Trail, transportation has been the lifeblood of Clinton for centuries. Known to many as the gateway to the Irish Hills – a combination of countryside, lakes and trails – Clinton long served as a stopover point for travelers, but its small-town and community-oriented feel is why people put down roots here. With beautiful, historic homes, mom-and-pop restaurants and a real sense of community pride, the Village of Clinton oozes small-town charm.

Historic and modern homes in many styles
Clinton attracts a large pool of buyers because of the diverse housing options available. “There isn’t one style that’s exclusive or common in Clinton,” says Janis Montalvo, broker/owner of Living in Lenawee Realty, LLC. “There’s a great mix of beautiful historic homes and some newer construction in the last 10 years.” Both single and multi-family houses are settled along Clinton’s residential streets. Everything from American Foursquares and Victorian homes to split levels and bungalows offer an assortment of amenities, including covered front porches and paved driveways leading to two-car garages.
“Houses in Clinton are more affordable because the village is in Lenawee County,” Montalvo says. “Prices in Washtenaw County tend to be higher.” The average price point here falls around $260,000. While inventory is limited, homes tend to be listed for a month or two before a new owner takes it off the market.
Victorian homes in Clinton often peer out from between tall oak trees shading their front lawns.
Affordable bungalow homes are more commonly found in the north side of Clinton.

Festival fun in Clinton
Every year in late September, thousands descend on the small village for the 3-day Clinton Fall Festival, which Montalvo calls “one of the best festivals in the state of Michigan.” There’s something for everyone to enjoy, including craft booths, games, a petting zoo and a dizzying array of food trucks. The extravaganza wraps up with an hour-long parade on Sunday. In the summer, locals and visitors flock to Tate Park for the Summerfest and Antique Tractor Show. Spend hours exploring all the attractions across the 80-acre green space, including live music, kiddie tractor pulls, food and games.
Solo and team recreational activities at Tate Park
Tate Park is not only the site of the summertime bash but offers a picturesque place for downtime or getting exercise outdoors. The park’s soccer fields, volleyball courts and quadplex softball complex are frequently used for recreational and youth league games. When kids aren’t out on the field, many enjoy the partially covered playset with rock walls, tube slides and a swing set. You can also take a peaceful walk along the sprawling nature trails on Tate Park’s 7-acre island. Because a small river borders the park, there’s also a canoe launch and opportunities for fishing.
Tate Park's athletic fields host regular soccer and ball games all throughout the summer months.
Tate Park visitors can also walk on riverside trails or fish from the shore of the River Raisin.

Clinton Theater and local dining favorites
During the frigid and snowy winters, locals head indoors to the charming Clinton Theater, which sits in the village’s quasi-downtown area along West Michigan Avenue. “The theater only shows one movie at a time, but you can go for $5 and buy a big bucket of popcorn that you can take back for refills next time you go,” Montalvo says. The theater is flanked by eateries and shops showcasing the area’s allure and character, like the Clinton Inn, a hotel and soon-to-be wedding and event venue built in 1901. Across the street, you’ll find village staple Clinton Hometown Pizza, which has kept customers coming back for decades for the pies and pasta.
Built in 1901 Clinton Inn still rents rooms and also operates as a wedding venue and event hall.
Clinton film buffs can head to Clinton Theater for a monthly rotation of films with $5 seats.
