College Park
Ranch-style, split-level and bi-level homes
In College Park, homes flank wide, sloping streets lined with oak and maple trees. Most were built between the 1960s and '80s, reflecting ranch-style, split-level or bi-level designs with garages. There are also some midcentury modern homes in the community. A number of these homes have red brick facades and sit on over a quarter of an acre of land. Prices typically range from $250,000 to $400,000, depending on the property's size and condition. "I do not typically encourage major renovations unless it is going to majorly impact the price because, typically, the amount of money that goes in is not what you get out in this area," says local Realtor Dara Williams with Weichert Realtors. Prospective buyers should be aware that many homes along Radcliffe Drive and to the west of College Park Drive receive higher-than-average Flood Factor Scores, largely due to the streets' topography.Russell Boulevard Elementary, West Middle and Hickman High
College Park students can enroll in Columbia Public Schools and begin at Russell Boulevard Elementary, which receives a B rating from Niche and is within half a mile of homes here. The school's PTA is very involved, helping to plan everything from a Taylor Swift spirit week for Teacher Appreciation Week to a fun run. From there, most students continue to B-minus-rated West Middle, home to extracurriculars like a yearly musical, kindness club and yearbook club. Students can finish at A-minus Hickman High, rated by Niche as the No. 2 school in the area. The school offers a range of electives, from woodworking to conservation coursework.Kiwanis Park, Cosmo Park and the MKT Trail
College Park is within 3 miles of some of the city's most popular green spaces, which Huffington points to as a major draw to the area. "Many other cities have large areas of green space outside their neighborhoods, but Columbia had some forethought to preserve those spaces within communities," he says. Kiwanis Park is within walking and biking distance of many neighborhood homes. The park spans 20 acres with a mile-long trail that meanders through towering sycamore and maple trees. Russell Boulevard Elementary, located next to the park, has outdoor basketball courts and a playground. Three miles to the north, Cosmo Park, the city's largest, is a sports hub with soccer fields, sand volleyball courts and the L. A. Nickell Golf Course. Two miles away, the multiuse MKT Trail spans nearly 9 miles. The District's nearby restaurants: Glenn's Cafe, Flat Branch Pub & Brewing and more
Williamson recommends dining in The District for its variety and local focus. Glenn's Cafe is Cajun-Creole influenced, with a menu that includes jambalaya and blackened redfish. At Cafe Poland, owner Iwona Galjska makes and serves every dish. "All the produce is local, and I try to buy organic," she says. "The customers are like my family. I've known some for many years, and people always come back here — even travelers." Flat Branch Pub & Brewing opened in the mid-1990s, making it the city's first of its kind following the repeal of Prohibition. Nearby grocery stores include Gerbes and Schnucks, which are about a mile away.Just 3 miles to The District, 2 miles to the University of Missouri
The District is about 3 miles away via West Broadway or a 15-minute ride on Go COMO's Red Route — there are bus stops just about a mile north of the community. Major employers are also nearby. Residents can take state Route 740 to the University of Missouri (about 2 miles away), MU Health Care (about 3 miles away) and the Boone Hospital Center (about 4 miles away). For farther commutes, major thoroughfares are also just a few miles away. Interstate 70 is located about 3 miles north, while U.S. Route 63 is about 5 miles to the east. State Route 740 and Route 63 offer connections to the state capital, Jefferson City (about 33 miles south), and to the Columbia Regional Airport (about 14 miles south).
