Green Meadows
Neighborhood in Columbia, Missouri
Boone County 65203
New Traditionals, ranch-styles and more
While there are some pockets of new construction, most homes here were built in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Recent builds primarily consist of brick New Traditional styles, while older designs include ranch-styles, bi-levels and a few custom midcentury modern homes. Some properties have “Basements, and some are on slabs depending on typography — the further you get from downtown, the more hills and valleys you’ll find,” McNally says. Green Meadows is just south of Hinkson Creek, which causes some nearby homes to receive higher-than-average Flood Factor Scores, but Morgan says that generally, "There's no concern about flooding.” According to McNally, properties typically sit on a third of an acre of land and range in price from $350,000 to $500,000. They sell fast, after an average of 8 days on the market, compared to the national average of 43 days.Greenbriar Connector, Rock Bridge State Park and more
McNally calls Green Meadows' proximity to the Greenbriar Connector a big draw to the community. This paved pathway passes through wooded areas, stretching less than half a mile and offering links to MKT, Hinkson Creek and MU trails — which McNally says are “all interconnected by a system” and have become popular walking and biking spots. The community is also near several green spaces, including Oakwood Hills Park. Here, locals can shoot hoops with their friends while kids have fun on the playground. Nearby, at the Country Club of Missouri, members can spend afternoons playing golf, swimming laps in the pool and challenging their friends to pickleball matches. Hikers here often head to the Rock Bridge Memorial State Park, which is less than 4 miles away. It features the Devil’s Icebox Trail, which meanders through a dense leafy canopy and passes by a cave that stretches more than 100 feet long.Columbia Public Schools and the University of Missouri
Children can attend Russell Boulevard Elementary, which receives a B-rating from Niche. Here, they’ll have the opportunity to enjoy activities put on by the PTA, including a fun run and a spring dance. From there, students can apply to attend B-plus-rated Ann Hawkins Gentry Middle, which Niche ranks as the No. 3 middle school in Boone County. Then, it’s on to A-rated Rock Bridge High. Here, students can take business electives and enjoy dual credit enrollment options with Columbia College. The school is also home to a planetarium. For higher learning opportunities, the community is just a few miles from the University of Missouri, which U.S. World & News Report ranks as the nation’s No. 79 best-value school.Friday night lights and nearby events
Green Meadows’ location means locals are in walking-distance of University of Missouri's football games. They’re also not far from a number of events, including the year-round Columbia Farmers Market; days, hours and activities depend on the season. When June rolls around, the city gears up for the annual Art in the Park, where dozens of creatives come to sell their artwork. In the fall, the Heritage Festival & Craft Show entertains locals with demonstrations by traditional artists, music and more.State Route 163, commutes to Jefferson City and more
State Route 163 connects Green Meadows to the rest of Columbia. Residents can take this route for about 4 miles to The District, which is also accessible by Go COMO's bus system. Residents can also hop on state Route 163 to get to employers, like the University of Missouri, MU Health Care and Boone Hospital Center, all of which are under 5 miles away. Other common commutes include drives to Missouri’s capital, Jefferson City, which is 30 miles south via U.S. Route 63; St. Louis, which is about 130 miles east via Interstates 70 and 64; and Kansas City, which is about 130 miles west via I-70. For farther away commutes, Route 63 can get residents to the airport in about 12 miles.Murry’s, a nearby Aldi and Columbia Mall
While Green Meadows is entirely residential, there are a number of nearby restaurants that locals can enjoy. McNally recommends Murry’s. “It’s been around for forever. It’s a place that everyone in Columbia knows and goes to,” he adds, calling the restaurant “a Columbia standard.” Besides elevated American classics, Murry’s offers live jazz music that, coupled with dim lighting, sets the tone for a relaxing evening. McNally also recommends Flyover for tapas, drinks and its constantly changing menu. For groceries, residents can head to a nearby Aldi location and for retail shopping, the Columbia Mall is conveniently just about 5 miles away.
