Galloway Ridge has suburban convenience against a rural backdrop

On the western edge of Columbus, Galloway Ridge pulls in homebuyers who want a quieter, more laid-back feel. Even though it’s close to open farmland, the area has grown quickly and picked up modern amenities to match. Most of the homes were built in the 21st century, and residents have easy access to shopping and public schools while still being surrounded by the countryside. As a result, it bridges the gap between the suburbs and more rural communities.

A starter-friendly neighborhood with New Traditional homes

With its sidewalks and snugly placed lots, residents of Galloway Ridge don’t have to go far to meet the neighbors. In fact, houses can be as little as 7 feet apart. Attached garages are typical in the center of the neighborhood, while houses on the northwest side have a more uniform arrangement of detached carports with back-alley access. The oldest homes in the area were built in the late 1990s, with newer developments spreading outward from there. Contemporary homes with colonial, ranch-style and Craftsman-inspired designs are typical, generally selling between the mid-$200,000s and the low $400,000s. The median price of a single-family home is in the mid-$300,000s, making it generally less expensive than Brown and Wexford-Thornapple, but comparable to Galloway. Detached condos are also a popular choice, usually selling in the $200,000 range. Monthly HOA fees tend to hover around $100, covering lawn care, snow removal and other services. Rich Russo, President of the Rich Russo Property Group, says, “It’s a nice location. It’s a good entrance into home ownership in Columbus.” Heather Smith, a Realtor with e-Merge Real Estate, emphasizes the appeal of its location: around 10 miles from the center of the capital. “It’s definitely a place for those who want to be a little further out,” she says.

How school zoning works for families living here

The neighborhood is served by South-Western City Schools, one of Ohio’s five largest school districts. Galloway Ridge Intermediate School is near the center of the community, making it a walkable option for many fifth- and sixth-graders. Several other public schools are just south in Westchester-Green Countrie, including Westland High School. South-Western doesn’t run magnet programs or open enrollment. Instead, kids go to their assigned school based on where they live, and only rare “special permission” requests for different schools are considered when there's room.

West Broad Street connects residents to I‑270 and nearby hubs

West Broad Street serves as the neighborhood’s main road, connecting to Interstate 270 in Lincoln Village. Hubs like downtown Columbus and Hilliard are about 10 miles away, while Galloway is less than 5 miles away. Outside of residential areas, most people will need a car to get around, though COTA bus stops are available along Hilliard Rome Road.

Neighborhood parks and a community center close to home

On the border between suburbia and farmlands, Galloway Ridge has no shortage of outdoor spots to explore. Galloway Ridge Park and Cypress Park have looping paths, playgrounds and open fields. Galloway Ridge Park is the smaller of the two, but it’s a local staple. “I basically grew up playing there. It’s a nice park right in the middle of the neighborhood,” says Thomas Hamrick, a Realtor with Keller Williams Consultants Realty. On the edge of the neighborhood is Cypress Park, where residents can play on soccer fields or a baseball field. To the south of the neighborhood is the Prairie Township Community Center, where locals can enjoy the indoor track, pools and fitness center.

Everyday shopping and casual dining close to the neighborhood

The area is home to a variety of shopping options, including some retailers, outdoor supply stores and supermarkets like Kroger and Aldi. Fast food and chain restaurants line West Broad Street, though there are a handful of locally owned options:

  • Don Deme Tacos focuses on Mexican classics and straightforward plates with quick counter service.
  • Burnzie’s Old Trail is a bar and grill with an all-day breakfast menu and standard comfort food options.
  • Tony’s Coneys is a longtime local spot known for Coney dogs, burgers and big scoops of ice cream.
  • O’Toole’s Irish Pub & Grill offers laid-back bar food, drinks and a low-key atmosphere.
