Northwoods has quiet, wooded streets with contemporary homes

Developed around a 160-acre nature camp, Northwoods is known for its connection to the outdoors. Parkland along the Olentangy River has trails, wildlife and open space. Quiet streets run through wooded surroundings, giving the area a tucked-away feel. But nearby highways keep the community connected to shopping, restaurants and everyday conveniences.

Why homes sell quickly in this low-traffic community

Most homes in Northwoods are contemporary and custom-built, often using Craftsman, colonial and Tudor details. You’ll see a lot of stone, stucco and wood exteriors, with lot sizes usually around a quarter-acre or more. There’s only one way in and out of the neighborhood, which helps keep traffic low and streets quiet. With about 100 homes total, the area feels more exclusive than nearby communities. Homes don’t hit the market often, but when they do, they tend to sell quickly compared to the national average. Condos are also available, with most built between the 1990s and early 2000s. The average home value in Northwoods is in the low $600,000s, higher than nearby communities like Olentangy High Bluffs and Village at Worthington but lower than Woods at Josephinum.

Trees line the streets and often form a canopy over the backyards. Some homes back up to Highbanks Metro Park, though there are features in place to separate locals from the woods. "You can see the deer in the park from your backyard, but they won't eat your garden. There's a barrier fence between your property and the park, and it's too high for them to jump over," says Andrew Robinson, executive real estate advisor at Real Brokerage Technologies.

For everyday recreation, the Olentangy Trail stretches about 14 miles from Worthington to downtown Columbus. Olentangy Parklands, a 100-acre green space along the trail, includes playgrounds, tennis courts, a soccer field and a skate park.

Getting around with quick access to I-270 and Route 23

Northwoods connects to Interstate 270 less than 2 miles away, with North High Street running through the area as a primary route for local travel. “It's a hidden gem because of its proximity to Interstate 270 and Route 23,” says Robinson, who also notes, “It's only about a mile-and-a-half from the interchange, making it very accessible.” Downtown Columbus is about 15 miles south, while Worthington is less than 5 miles away.
