Worthington Park is a family-friendly neighborhood near Polaris

Worthington Park has a family friendly atmosphere and a convenient location, with downtown Columbus about 15 miles away. The neighborhood is technically in the city, but homes are zoned for schools like Worthington Park Elementary School. Residents are minutes from Polaris, the busiest shopping district in northern Columbus. There are plenty of parks surrounding the neighborhood, making it easy to get outdoors.

The neighborhood has single-family homes, condos and rentals

You’re going to find more single-family homes in Worthington Park than you would in nearby communities like Slate Hill, where condos and townhouses are more common. Most of these New Traditional homes were built in the early 2000s, but some date back to the 1980s. The median price for a single-family property is higher than in most of Columbus, but lower than in Worthington. Prices range from the mid-$300,000s to the mid-$500,000s. There are some condos in the neighborhood along Sancus Boulevard. While units rarely go on sale, you can expect to pay between the mid-$100,000s and the low $300,000s. Almost half of the residents in Worthington Park are renters, living in one- and two-bedroom apartments.

Highly rated Worthington City Schools attract residents

Although Worthington Park is in Columbus, students go to school outside of the city limits in the highly rated Worthington City School District. “Worthington schools for the price you can get [here] is pretty unbeatable,” says Realtor John Kohlhepp with the Embark Real Estate Group at Keller Williams Capital Partners Realty, who lives in Worthington. Thomas Worthington High School, which also receives high marks, has special programs like the Entrepreneurship Business Academy. The district offers school choice through intradistrict open enrollment.

Polaris Fashion Place is a short drive away

Within minutes of Worthington Park, you can be in the Polaris North neighborhood at the largest shopping hub in northern Columbus. At the center of it all is Polaris Fashion Place, where you can:

  • Visit shops like JCPenney and Pacsun.
  • Meet friends for lunch at The Cheesecake Factory.
  • Grab a beer and play a game at Dave & Buster’s.
Polaris Towne Center in Polaris South is the go-to for groceries and other essentials.

Residents visit local businesses like Carfagna’s Market & Ristorante

While there are well-known shops and restaurants in nearby communities, there are also local options. The longstanding Carfagna's Market & Ristorante is an Italian restaurant and merchant that opened in 1937 and has grown into a community favorite. “Carfagna's is really fantastic...” Kohlhepp says. “It has a really good wine selection.” He also recommends the Olentangy River Brewing Company, which is in Orange and partners with Roosevelt Coffee Roasters. “You can drink coffee, and then at some point switch to beer,” Kohlhepp says. “So, there’s something for everybody.” Flint Station is closer to home and has live music, line dancing and trivia.

The commute downtown can take up to 30 minutes, depending on traffic

Because of the proximity to Polaris, Kohlhepp says that Worthington Park is “definitely car-centric.” Interstate 71 offers a straightforward commute to downtown Columbus. Still, it can take up to half an hour during rush hour. Even driving to the stores can take a while, especially if Sancus Boulevard is congested. “You have to leave a buffer in there,” Kohlhepp says. “We used to send our kid to daycare in Polaris, and some days it would take five minutes to get to daycare, other days it would take 20.” Public transportation is limited, but the Central Ohio Transit Authority offers a bus service along Sancus Boulevard.

Parks and green spaces like Sharon Woods Metro Park are nearby

Worthington Park is surrounded by parks and recreation, with nearby options like:

  • Sancus Park, a small neighborhood park with a playground
  • Lazelle Woods Park, which has athletic fields, a nature preserve and a community center
  • Sharon Woods Metro Park, with multiuse trails and Schrock Lake, where you can go fishing
  • Highbanks Metro Park, which spans over 1,200 acres
Kohlhepp is partial to Highbanks Metro Park because, while it is farther away, it has almost 15 miles of hiking trails, sledding hills and playgrounds. “It’s a lot of fun,” says Kohlhepp, noting that it's about a five-minute drive, but not walkable from the neighborhood.
