Richmond Hill Corridor offers outdoor access close to the city
Richmond Hill Corridor is an expansive residential community around 6 miles west of Conifer, where mountains ebb into valleys and thick forests surround both the houses and country roads leading to them. “The area has mountain appeal. You have the ability to be on more acreage and be more secluded, but you still have the convenience of being close to the city,” says Jennifer Goslau, an agent with Coldwell Banker Global Luxury in Evergreen, who lives in Richmond Hill Corridor. Hiking and horseback riding trails meander through the area, providing plenty of outdoor adventure.
Mountain homes and estates with acreage
Homes in Richmond Hill Corridor are scattered along the mountain valley. Forests surround most properties, and many are on large lots accompanied by open fields. “You have some homes conveniently close to the downtown Aspen Park area, then some that are farther out on a lot of acreage and can have horses and sheep and goats,” Goslau says. Multistory mountain homes built between the 1970s and 1990s are a common housing type. Some are more traditional with simple exteriors, while others are cabin-inspired with wood siding and floor-to-ceiling windows. There are also split-levels and raised ranches in the neighborhood. Prices range from $625,000 to over $1 million, depending on property size and features. “Your money is going to go further here than in Evergreen. [Conifer] offers a little bit more affordability for people who want to get up into the mountains,” Goslau says.
Additionally, Craftsman estates dot the area, built between the 1990s and 2010s. Properties span 5 to 20 acres and can double as farms. These homes often have stone accents, picture windows and raised, wrap-around balconies. Others resemble contemporary cabins with wood exteriors and stone chimneys. These larger properties cost around $1.1 million to $3 million.
Exploring the area’s trails, open spaces and state park
The neighborhood's mountainous landscape has several trails carved through it. Reynolds Park is a large open space nearby that offers tent-only walk-in camping and is known for its hiking opportunities. The North Fork Trail begins at the park and goes more than 10 miles to the South Platte River. North of Reynolds Park is Beaver Ranch Park, another open space that has a disc golf course. James Q Newton Park requires a reservation and has large picnic shelters and recreation areas outfitted with baseball fields and horseshoe pits. About 7 miles northwest of the neighborhood is Staunton State Park, which offers daily and annual passes. The park’s diverse terrain includes 37 miles of trails that travel through its foothills, cliffs and grassy meadows. Adventurists can go rock climbing on the cliffs, fishing along Black Mountain Creek or geocaching through the entire area. There are also 25 campsites.
Nearby shops and restaurants in Conifer and Aspen Park
While the area is residential, shopping and dining are a short drive away. Snowpack Taproom & Pizzeria is a standalone restaurant just outside the neighborhood serving artisan pizzas and craft beer. The outdoor patio area hosts live music when the weather is nice. Conifer Town Center is around 6 miles away and has a Safeway and Natural Grocers. About 8 miles east, Aspen Park’s commercial corridor along Conifer Road has an auto parts store and additional dining. Thai 202 serves authentic cuisine, and Brooks Place Tavern has classic American fare. “It’s all locally owned here. You don’t really get the national retailers,” says Realtor Jackie White with Your Castle Real Estate, who has over 10 years of experience. “People like to stay up the hill and support the local businesses.” Wendy’s and Domino’s are the area’s few fast-food options.
Well-rated schools offer STEM and media programs for students
Richmond Hill Corridor is served by the Jefferson County School District, which offers choice enrollment. Elk Creek Elementary School earns a B-plus grade from Niche, while West Jefferson Middle has an A-minus. Students at West Jefferson can take STEM electives in robotics and digital design. The A-minus-rated Conifer High School has a Student Media program and a Computer Science and Engineering Department for career-minded students.
Highway 285 offers access to Conifer and Denver
Navigating the area’s narrow country roads requires a vehicle. Molly Drive, Richmond Hill Road and Wamblee Valley Road are the area’s main thoroughfares – unpaved dirt and gravel roads branch off them, creating the rest of the neighborhood. Access to U.S. Highway 285 is nearby. Commuters can use the highway to head east into Conifer and eventually reach downtown Denver in about 38 miles. “The traffic on U.S. 285 can sometimes be a negative. You have to be strategic on the holidays and some weekends,” Goslau says. The Denver International Airport is roughly 73 miles away.
The potential hazards of mountain living
Richmond Hill Corridor’s forest landscape runs the risk of potential wildfires. In an emergency, the Elk Creek Fire Protection District has a station directly north of the neighborhood, along U.S. 285. According to White, the community is proactive in fire mitigation and prevention efforts.
