Forest Hills offers a quiet lifestyle outside of Cranston
Forest Hills occupies an interesting place between the park-speckled neighborhoods of northern Cranston and the retail rich area of Garden City. There’s an old-fashioned charm to the area, thanks to the consistent sight of vintage housing. Serena Gendron, team manager with Homesmart Professionals, says that pockets of Cranston like this are appealing due to lower home prices compared to the more expensive areas near downtown Providence. “The median home price for single family homes in 2021 was $330,000. You have all the amenities of nearby Providence, which is awesome.” Forest Hills is a neighborhood to check out if you want a quieter lifestyle with a focus on historic homes.
Forest Hills has plenty of sidewalks in the neighborhood for walking around safely.
Forest Hills is bordered by Reservoir Avenue where most retail and restaurants are located.

The community has historical homes with diverse housing styles
For homes around that median price you’ll find styles like a three-bedroom bungalow from the 1920s. Expect to encounter all the hallmarks of suburbia: sidewalks, large shade trees and gently curving streets. Once you venture into the low $400,000s, you’ll see homes with verdant front lawns and driveways leading to attached garages. The styles can be more quintessentially New England, too, such as Cape Cods or cottages with wood shingle siding. If you’re seeking more space, there are properties that sprawl across 2,300 square feet, such as Colonial-style homes from the late 1930s.
In Forest Hills, neighbors are close, and front yards are a favorite place to relax.

Shopping and dining options abound along Reservoir Avenue
Reservoir Avenue lines the east end, and that’s where residents go to shop and dine. Types of food run the gamut, from fast food eateries to the high-brow concept of Spain, a lounge-like restaurant offering dishes like sirloin topped with mushroom cognac sauce. After dinner, swing by the Historic Park Theater, a former vaudeville house built in 1924. There’s passive entertainment like cover band concerts but also group events where you solve a mystery together.
