An ethnically rich community in east Dearborn
Located on the east side of Dearborn, Woodworth is an ethnic enclave that blends urban and suburban living. Like surrounding neighborhoods, many of its residents share a similar background story. “Going back to the [30s], Ford needed a lot of employees, so a lot of Middle Easterners moved into [South End] to be near the plant," says Victor Fawaz, Realtor with Re/Max Team 2000. "As they grew in numbers, they moved into these other areas." Woodworth and the adjoining Colson Ruby neighborhood are often considered sisters because they share resources, but each has its unique appeal. For instance, Woodworth is a rare Dearborn community with a higher level of renter occupation. Some of this is due to Henry Ford Village, a retirement community in its northeast corner. For residents, the neighborhood offers more modern houses and is one of the closest Dearborn neighborhoods to Fairlane Town Center, providing convenient shopping and dining.

Mid-priced cottages, bungalows and modern traditional homes
Cottages, bungalows and Modern Traditional homes are the most common styles, with long driveways separating lots, leading to small, detached garages. With a median year built of 1941, houses in Woodworth are relatively newer than those in neighborhoods such as Colson Ruby and South End. While most homes were built in the 1930s and 1940s, new builds are also available. Lots are only about 4,400 square feet and offer small front and back yards. "In most cases, affordability is the biggest draw," Fawaz says. "We can build something here. You can build a family and start in a place and it's affordable." Houses generally cost between $200,000 and $500,000, depending on the size and year built, but there are outliers on each end of the spectrum. Homes hardly hit the market, but when they do, they sell in just 18 days, compared to the US average of 45 days.

Big box stores and locally owned shops on main streets
Along Greenfield Road, which borders Woodworth to the west, locally owned establishments offer one-of-a-kind experiences. Kings Bakery is one of the most distinct dining options. It’s well known for its 17-inch-long “Manouwich,” which holds the title of the longest shawarma in Michigan. The gut-busting sandwich is wrapped in cheesy Maneesh, a Lebanese flatbread, and packed with halal ingredients. On Woodworth’s south end, Michigan Avenue offers a mix of locally owned establishments, various services and chain restaurants. The thoroughfare is well-known for its bakeries and coffee shops, including Haraz Coffee House, a Yemeni cafe with a broad selection of Arab tea and coffee. “If you drive around and you see there are so many small businesses, and so it's like it's almost, and they have their own economy here,” Fawaz says. “So, there are a lot of Arabic foods and a lot of supermarkets with things that are not available at the American supermarkets.” One such market, Dearborn Fresh Supermarket, is located one mile east of Woodworth in Colson Ruby. The locally owned grocery store specializes in fresh, never-frozen halal meat, Middle Eastern ingredients and various baked goods. Ford Road borders Woodworth to the north and features big box stores, including Walmart, Target and Best Buy. Fairlane Town Center is roughly 2 miles west of the community.
