The Flying Dragon disc golf course challenges its players
The 10-acre Julian Harris Park has pickleball and tennis courts and a mile-long trail that encircles the park. Behind Central Park Baptist Church is “The Outback at Central Park,” an open disc golf course designed for beginner and intermediate players. It is one of two disc golf courses in the community; the other, a more challenging course called Flying Dragon, is across from the Jack Allen Soccer Complex, which has nine turf fields over 30 acres of land. Austin Middle School is at the forefront of diversity
Students are served by Decatur City Schools. Students can attend Julian Harris Elementary School, which has a B-plus grade from Niche. Carnegie Carnival is an homage to Mardi Gras
From October to the beginning of March, downtown Decatur hosts the Carnegie Carnival, a Mardi Gras-style celebration that spans several events. At Point Mallard Park, a city-run park east of its historic district, several festivals are held throughout the year, including the Alabama Jubilee Hot Air Balloon Classic held on Memorial Day weekend, when more than 60 hot air balloon pilots from across the region race through the skies.
