Moundford generally offers more space than nearby neighborhoods
Tucked into Decatur 's northeastern corner, Moundford sits between the city and the wooded farmlands stretching beyond. Much of the neighborhood is a collection of houses along gridded streets. Houses to the west have typical suburban surroundings, from their tidy lawns to convenient dining and retail options that line the area's southern edge. This familiar ambiance still allows for homes and lots that are often larger than nearby communities. The area is also the site of a major industrial park that hosts a number of local businesses. Despite good condition, single-family home prices are far below the national average. “We’re getting a lot of people moving here looking for a bargain when it comes to housing,” says city council member Patrick McDaniel.

Duplexes, apartments and single-family homes fill the neighborhood
Greenery fills the area, with mature oak trees dotting lawns and neatly manicured hedges following driveways to single and double-car garages. Two streets of homes line the edge of a major industrial park that takes up most of the east side. As a result, East Finch Drive sees a great deal of traffic in comparison to many other thoroughfares in Moundford. Though many of the neighborhood’s houses are duplexes and apartments, many single-family options are also available. Split-level and ranch-style are the most common housing designs, with prices that range from about $110,000 to $180,000, depending on the size and amenities included. On average, lot size is about a third of an acre, while square footage is in the 2,500s — both higher than surrounding neighborhoods like Camelot, MANA and Spencer Park.

Local outreach and cornhole tournaments support the community
The Moundford Free Methodist Church is actively involved in the community, offering local outreach every Wednesday evening. “We offer locals the chance for recovery from their hurts, hangups and habits,” says Melody Smith, administrative assistant at the church. “We start with dinner and move into dealing with addiction and trauma.” The church also offers Toss For A Cause cornhole tournaments that raise money for worthy causes every month.
