Historic homes and local businesses fill Claytown, a former mining hub
Located along Southwest Detroit’s border with the cultural oasis of Dearborn, the neighborhood of Claytown is itself a hub of culture and conveniences. Claytown is not only home to a thriving food scene and to amenities from highways to grocery markets, but also to a competitive housing market reflecting this neighborhood’s desirable features. Claytown owes its name to the Old West End’s former clay mines, an industry long forgotten by residents of the Motor City. However, that industrious spirit has never escaped this community. Where miners once mined is now a neighborhood awash with family-owned businesses and hundreds of historic homes.

Craftsman and bungalow homes reflect a century of housing growth
Craftsman, Foursquare and bungalow homes, some of them built as early as 1918, line Claytown’s grid-patterned streets and serve as visible reminders of the area's long history. The best of Claytown’s story is not yet behind it, however. Realtor Robert Ross of eXp Realty says, “With clear signs of community development and revitalization plans throughout the surrounding Warren-Livernois area, this is an investor’s dream.” The housing market is just as promising as the local economy; Claytown’s housing stock has seen refurbishment that has bolstered the neighborhood’s desirability. Ross says, “It’s a diamond in the rough with several recent upgrades and construction.” Homes in Claytown sell for $70,000 to $310,000, well above the city average, and reflecting this neighborhood’s manifold features.
