Woodcroft
Suburban Neighborhood in Durham, North Carolina
Durham County 27707, 27713
Trees tower above established 20th century homes
Colonials and Cape Cods sit on slightly sloped lots shaded by towering mature trees, giving the homes an added touch of privacy. Driveways lead to one- to two-car garages flanking the side of the houses. Sidewalks are few and far between, but the streets are wide enough to walk and bike to the surrounding trails. Price points range from $350,000 to $550,000. New construction is starting to be developed in one of Woodcroft’s eastern subsections and is the most expensive option in the neighborhood, selling for $845,000 to $900,000. Townhouses selling for $350,000 to $450,000 are also available for those wanting to avoid lawn maintenance.Woodcroft Trail and Woodcroft Club offer outdoor recreation
Locals pass each other on the Woodcroft Trail, which spans 5 miles throughout the neighborhood’s wooded areas. Bikers and runners can get fresh air along the pathways connecting to the larger American Tobacco Trail. People can explore the surrounding areas along this peaceful, off-road trail developed along an old railroad track. Head south to reach the shopping at the Streets at Southpoint or traverse the northbound sliver of the trail that stretches to downtown Durham. Each of the trails also passes community pocket parks. Both Solite Park and Piney Wood Park feature playgrounds for kids to burn off some energy. Solite Park is a popular spot among hoopers for its basketball court, while Piney Wood Park is where locals head to play a round of pickleball or let their pups run around the dog park. During the summer, kids flock to the slides and rock-climbing wall in the swimming pool at Woodcroft Club. Though separate from the neighborhood, locals can join the club to take advantage of its other amenities, including tennis courts, a fitness center and social get-togethers. Everything from wine tastings to movie nights and breakfast with Santa is held at the club annually.Attending Durham Public Schools and nearby universities
Students may attend Parkwood or Southwest Elementary schools, part of Durham Public Schools. The former has a C-plus from Niche, while the latter earns a B-minus. They’ll later attend B-rated Sherwood Githens Middle School or C-rated Lowe’s Grove Middle School. Lowe’s Grove students can enroll in a STEM magnet program. Students who filter into Hillside High School, which Niche rates a B-minus, can apply to the Business and Finance Academy to take finance, engineering or health sciences courses. Other students in the area may attend Jordan High School, which earns a B-plus from Niche. With The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University within 8 miles of Woodcroft, students can stay close to home for college. The neighborhood also appeals to those working for those universities and their respective hospitals.Commuters take I-40 to surrounding Triangle region
Interstate 40 makes for a convenient commute to the innovative Research Triangle Park, which houses more than 300 companies and sits 7 miles east of Woodcroft. Locals also take the freeway for 11.5 miles east to reach Raleigh-Durham International Airport. By traveling along Fayetteville Street, they can avoid major highways to get to the heart of downtown Durham, 7 miles north.Big box grocers and neighborhood watering holes
Flanking Highway 54 is the Woodcroft Shopping Center, which houses a Food Lion for grocery essentials. A Harris Teeter sits on the other side of the thoroughfare. The shopping centers can be a one-stop shop with nail salons, ATMs and dry cleaners. Several local eateries mingle among those storefronts, including West 94th Street Pub, where locals pack into small booths and bar seats for brews and pub fare. Before reaching Woodcroft’s entrance along Fayetteville Road, locals will find Nantucket Grill, a favorite for its lobster rolls. Bua Thai Cuisine next door serves up curry dishes in a rustic dining room. Two miles south of the neighborhood are more extensive shopping options at The Streets at Southpoint, which earns daily visits from people across the Triangle area and features more than 100 brand-name brands and chain restaurants.
