Suburbia and accessibility in Woodcroft
There is no shortage of foliage in Woodcroft, a cul-de-sac neighborhood of rolling hills with a name that matches its surroundings. “There are trails that wind through the wooded areas of the neighborhood, which is its most popular amenity and is very pretty and scenic,” says Nikki Rice, a real estate specialist with EXP Realty, who has sold in the area for 18 years. “It’s one of the more established neighborhoods in Durham because most homes were built in the 1980s. There’s also a huge range of housing – everything from single-family homes to condos and townhouses.” Woodcroft’s suburban nature and prime access to nearby Interstate 40 make for an ideal combination for newcomers.

Trees tower above established 20th century homes
Colonials and Cape Cods sit on slightly sloped lots shaded by towering mature trees, giving the homes an added touch of privacy. Driveways lead to one- to two-car garages flanking the side of the houses. Sidewalks are few and far between, but the streets are wide enough to walk and bike to the surrounding trails. Price points range from $350,000 to $550,000. New construction is starting to be developed in one of Woodcroft’s eastern subsections and is the most expensive option in the neighborhood, selling for $845,000 to $900,000. Townhouses selling for $350,000 to $450,000 are also available for those wanting to avoid lawn maintenance.

Woodcroft Trail and Woodcroft Club offer outdoor recreation
Locals pass each other on the Woodcroft Trail, which spans 5 miles throughout the neighborhood’s wooded areas. Bikers and runners can get fresh air along the pathways connecting to the larger American Tobacco Trail. People can explore the surrounding areas along this peaceful, off-road trail developed along an old railroad track. Head south to reach the shopping at the Streets at Southpoint or traverse the northbound sliver of the trail that stretches to downtown Durham. Each of the trails also passes community pocket parks. Both Solite Park and Piney Wood Park feature playgrounds for kids to burn off some energy. Solite Park is a popular spot among hoopers for its basketball court, while Piney Wood Park is where locals head to play a round of pickleball or let their pups run around the dog park. During the summer, kids flock to the slides and rock-climbing wall in the swimming pool at Woodcroft Club. Though separate from the neighborhood, locals can join the club to take advantage of its other amenities, including tennis courts, a fitness center and social get-togethers. Everything from wine tastings to movie nights and breakfast with Santa is held at the club annually.
