Just south of the Delaware River and 20 miles from Philadelphia is leafy, laid-back East Greenwich Township. Boasting a population of over 11,000 people, it offers residents a blend of rural and suburban living in proximity to city amenities.
East Greenwich’s suburban-style neighborhoods have wide, curving streets and tree-lined sidewalks. Here, you’ll see an array of architectural styles, which include Cape Cods, split-levels, ranch-style houses, colonials and Queen Anne-style homes. These houses are typically set back on spacious lots averaging a half-acre. Lawns in this area commonly have a few mature trees and tidy landscaping, along with a paved driveway that fits multiple cars. In East Greenwich, the median sale price for single-family homes is around $475,000. Some New Traditional homes can range from $450,000 to $950,000. Students in the area can attend schools in the East Greenwich Township School District and the Kingsway Regional School District, which both get overall grades of B-plus from Niche. Students may start in East Greenwich Township schools, with the unrated Jeffrey Clark School teaching prekindergarten through second grade, followed by the B-plus-rated Samuel Mickle School, which has third through sixth grade. From there, students can move on to the Kingsway Regional School District, beginning with Kingsway Regional Middle School, which earns a B from Niche, followed by Kingsway Regional High School, which scores a B-plus.
For fresh air and exercise, there's Thompson Family Park on Wolfert Station Road. With many different sports fields, a playground, walking trails and a large dog park, this well-maintained park has plenty to entertain everyone. Mickleton Park is another outdoor option in Greenwich Township, featuring a play area, a covered picnic shelter and plenty of open space.
Cinder Bar on Berkeley Road is a contemporary local restaurant that serves American fare like burgers and pizza in an airy atmosphere complete with patio seating. A few blocks west, SUGARED by Sha is a modern dessert lounge with a wide variety of cupcakes and other sweets. Though there are a handful of convenience stores in the township, Save A Lot, located on West Broad Street about a mile north of East Greenwich, is the closest supermarket. Rosie’s Farm Market on Swedeboro Road, about a mile south of the township, offers an abundance of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables. For a big-box store, Walmart is about 7 miles north on the New Jersey Turnpike.
For a small slice of unique local history, there's The Little Red Schoolhouse on Harmony Road. Built by Quakers in 1809, this small brick building served as the township’s only school for many years. After some renovations in the 1940s, it became a vibrant community center that hosts a range of local events.
With Interstate 295 and the New Jersey Turnpike running right through East Greenwich Township, it’s quick and easy to get across town and beyond. When the artsy energy of downtown Philadelphia starts to call, 295 brings locals to the heart of the city in a half-hour.
