High demand, low turnover
Before Oklahoma gained statehood, determined homesteaders settled the city of Edmond. Many were so eager to claim land in this part of the state that they bolted from the starting line before the cannons kicked off the first Land Run in the late 1800s. Others, like the infamous Nanitta Daisy, were so anxious to settle here, they leapt from the moving trains running through the city to stake their claims. Today, the housing market in Edmond’s Homestead is less frenzied, but current residents are just as immovable as the original settlers. “I wouldn’t say that homes come on the market here very often, there are maybe two or three for sale yearly,” says Corey Travis, a top area Realtor with Flotilla Real Estate Partners. “It’s pretty popular, but there isn’t a lot of turnover, because people don’t want to move away.” Less than 4 miles from downtown Edmond, in an A-plus rated school district and close to shopping and dining options along West Danforth Road, it’s easy to see why.

The gated community of Meritage Park in Homestead offers beautiful housing options.
Classic suburb or luxurious gated community
Rows of large Traditional-style homes line the gently winding residential streets here, neatly trimmed with manicured lawns and gardens. Most were built between the ‘90s and 2010s, and prices run anywhere from $360,000 to $425,000. Some of Homestead’s priciest homes are in a small, gated community off Santa Fe Avenue. “Meritage Park is the only single-street, private community in Edmond that’s maintenance-free. They handle all the landscaping, all of the fertilizing, all of the weeding, everything,” says Travis, adding that the homes in this small section of the neighborhood start at $425,000 and climb to well over $600,000. “If you don’t want to live in one of the giant golf course neighborhoods that have 700 houses in them, where you don’t know any of your neighbors, but still get good amenities, Meritage Park is a good option for you,” she says.
Highly rated Edmond schools
Neighborhood youngsters attend schools in the highly sought-after Edmond Public Schools system, which earned an A-plus from Niche in 2024. Between preschool and fifth grade, kids go to Frontier Elementary. Older students go to Cheyenne Middle and North High. All three schools got A’s from Niche in 2024. North High School also earned the No. 9 spot on Niche’s list of the best public high schools in the state. The high school’s cafeteria and gym were recently renovated as part of a district-wide, bond-funded improvement project. North High teens can participate in one or more of the school’s laundry list of extracurriculars, from Air Force JROTC and band to Dungeons & Dragons Club and StellarXplorers, an astronomy-themed club.
Frontier Elementary is a popular schooling option for younger students.

Big box stores and international cuisine
The bustling corner of West Danforth Road and North Santa Fe Avenue has everything from Walmart Supercenter and Kohl’s to Goodwill and Dollar Tree, all within 2 miles of Homestead. There are also familiar chain eateries like KFC, Jack in the Box and Tropical Smoothie. At Mocha House, nearby, locals can enjoy a cup of authentic Yemeni coffee. Mio Italian Kitchen, one of Travis’s favorite Edmond eateries, is also close to home, off North Santa Fe. “It’s run by an Italian family and it’s one of those great places where the grandmother walks around and she doesn’t speak much English but she’s awesome and her food is just the best,” she says, adding that everything on the menu is great, but their shrimp and lobster appetizer is so good that her husband would “literally eat it off the floor.”
