Young families move into Timber Ridge
Timber Ridge lies in the heart of Edmond, about 2 miles north of downtown. In recent years, its prime location, great schools and inviting atmosphere have made it a popular choice for families. "A lot has changed since we moved in," says Jessica Ballard, a resident since 2019 and president of the neighborhood association. "We’ve seen an influx of homes sold in the past five years to young families with kids, so it seems to be a big generational shift happening within our neighborhood, which is great." Quiet residential streets give neighborhood kids ample room to meet up and play. "I literally have three extra kids in my living room right now because all the kids run around and it’s safe,” Ballard says over the roar of rowdy children. “They just hop down the cul-de-sac and play or go to the pond and fish. The whole vibe just seems to be very open and friendly, and it’s been a really great shift for us coming from Deer Creek."
A-rated schools in the Edmond Public Schools District
Highly rated public schools are within walking distance, including Northern Hills Elementary School, Sequoyah Middle School and North High School, all of which receive an A from Niche. “The kids love it because they have to walk past Braum’s Ice Cream to come back home in the afternoon, so there’s a lot of Braum’s stops on the way back from middle school,” Ballard says. “Then we’re literally right next to North High School. I enjoy going out in the mornings and listening to the marching band practice while I have my coffee.” High schoolers at North High School can earn college credit for in-state schools like Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma University through dual enrollment, and the University of Central Oklahoma is steps away from the community. Ballard notes that many parents in the neighborhood send their elementary-aged children to Russell Dougherty School or Clegern Elementary School, two lottery-choice public charter schools.
Younger students may attend Northern Hills Elementary.
Students can attend Edmond North High School.

Walking to Ted’s Cafe
Ted’s Café Escondido, a local chain also on the walk home from middle school, serves up Mexican fare in a laid-back setting. Groceries are just outside the neighborhood at Homeland, but buyers can also shop at Walmart on Danforth Road or Sprouts on Second Street. Downtown Edmond’s flourishing retail and restaurant scene is a short drive or bike ride away. “We used to own a business downtown and love all of the things that they’re doing down there. We as a family sometimes ride our bikes down there,” Ballard says. Options downtown include Mule, a cheery pub with handcrafted sandwiches and brews, and Frenzy Brewing Co., Edmond’s first brewery. Although the brewery doesn’t serve food, patrons can bring their own food or order delivery from nearby restaurants. Oak City Pizza is inside The Railyard, a food hall packed with eight restaurants under one roof with a sprawling patio. Edmond has weekly farmers markets throughout the year, including a summer market from April until November and an indoor winter market from November through March.

Contemporary and ranch-style homes
Neatly spaced rows of classic midcentury ranch-style homes and 1970s and ’80s-era contemporary-style bungalows line the wide, residential streets. Many homes have brick or stone exteriors and sit on generous lots with mature trees. Homes can cost between $215,000 and $250,000 on the lower end of the price spectrum, but most homes range from $280,000 to $400,000. Prices increase with renovations, larger lots and amenities like a pool, ranging from $435,000 and $575,000 and tapping out at around $600,000 for a sprawling 4,000-square-foot home. “We don’t see a lot going on the market in Timber Ridge because most folks stay for the long haul,” says Rob Scholl, a Realtor with EXP Realty. “That’s what makes it feel so homey. You can really plant your roots and get to know your neighbors here.”

Timber Ridge Park is the hub of the neighborhood and features a pool and clubhouse, a tennis and pickleball court, soccer and baseball fields, a playground and basketball courts. “Our other favorite perk is how close we are to the Edmond Library,” Ballard says. “We really enjoy riding our bikes and being able to get to the library quickly if we have an afternoon.” The 18-hole Kickingbird Golf Course is a mile and a half east down Danforth Road. An Icon Cinema is also steps outside the neighborhood in Kickingbird Square.

"We do a neighborhood Christmas light contest in the winter, and then we do a big Easter event and hide Easter eggs in the park and have a big gathering."
