Bedroom community Deer Creek is set between two counties

In discussing the future of residential and commercial developments, Japanese architect Yasuhiro Yamashita opined that “architecture should exist quietly with nature, never opposing it.” Deer Creek, sprawled between northwestern Oklahoma County and southwestern Logan County in far west Edmond, is a great example of this quiet comingling. Realtor Leah Brown, with McGraw Realtors, describes Deer Creek as “a true bedroom community in that it doesn’t have a ton of its own shopping.” But despite most residents heading to nearby Edmond for their everyday essentials, it’s a “really great area, with really great schools,” she affirms, adding, “It’s somewhere between suburban and country. There are lots of really nice, upscale houses and acreage properties in Deer Creek.”

Home variety and one of metro OKC’s widest price ranges

Homes here range in price between $315,000 and $4.2 million. “It’s definitely one of the widest price ranges in the metro,” laughs Brown, noting that homes on the upper end of the spectrum tend to be “big, beautiful estate-type homes with lots of land.” For a five-bedroom, six-bathroom home nestled on 80 acres, with vaulted ceilings, an attached four-car garage and an adjacent cattle barn, you can expect to pay close to $4 million. A smaller Craftsman-inspired bungalow on a half-acre corner lot with modern fixtures and a bright, open-concept floorplan tends to sell for around the $345,000 mark, close to the median for the metro. “Deer Creek is nice because you can really find whatever you’re looking for, whether that’s lots of land or a more typical suburb-style community,” says Brown.

The Deer Creek School District has well-regarded schools

Neighborhood youngsters attend schools in the highly sought-after Deer Creek School District. Many go to Rose Union Elementary for preschool through fourth grade, Deer Creek Intermediate for fifth and sixth grade, Deer Creek Middle for seventh and eighth and Deer Creek High School for ninth through 12th. All four are highly rated by Niche and GreatSchools, boasting A grades and Summary Ratings of 8/10 and higher. Deer Creek High School, at the heart of the community within 6 miles of most homes, is ranked in the top 10 best high schools in the OKC metro by U.S. News & World Report. “They’re really great schools,” Brown says, adding that many of her clients are interested in moving to the area specifically for the school district.

Shopping outside Deer Creek, though growth will bring closer options

For their groceries and everyday shopping, most Deer Creek residents head east toward Edmond or south toward Oklahoma City. Brown notes that like most areas in the counties and towns surrounding OKC, “there’s a lot of growth happening in Deer Creek right now and a lot of new neighborhoods and commercial developments both.” You’ll find your local Crest Foods, Walmart Supercenter, Walmart Neighborhood Market and Aldi in Edmond, all within 8 miles of most homes. Brown adds that Quail Springs, just 8 miles south, is a hotspot frequented by locals for more shopping, dining and entertainment. “The Quail Springs Mall is going to have everything,” she says, noting that alongside traditional retail, the mall is popular for the Blue Zoo aquarium and its AMC movie theater.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
