Egg Harbor Township is close to cities and full of amenities

Location is the biggest reason people move to Egg Harbor Township, according to Matthew Haviland, a resident and Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Atlantic Shore. “You’re right outside Atlantic City, Ocean City, an hour from Philadelphia, two hours from New York and close to beaches,” Haviland says. There is a variety of housing styles and prices, including properties with views of the water. “My neighborhood is very diverse,” Haviland says. “But everyone looks out for one another and gets along.” Highly rated schools and recreation opportunities are also big draws to the township. The area features several parks, golf courses and a small amusement park.

Township parks offer pickleball, trails and golf courses

The township has nine municipal parks, including MK Betterment Park, which features sports courts. “We have the best outdoor pickleball courts with lights that people play on all year-round,” Haviland says. “Especially in the summertime, they’re packed with people playing pickleball.” Egg Harbor Township Nature Reserve has trails and walkways for walking, hiking and biking. There’s also the Atlantic County Bikeway, an abandoned railway that runs from Egg Harbor Township to Hamilton Township.

The area has several private, semi-private and public golf courses and clubs. Storybook Land is a fairytale-inspired amusement park for children. They are open from spring to December, with special activities for Halloween and Christmas. Most residents drive, but some bus routes serve the area

Atlantic City and Ocean City are both around 10 miles away from the township. Residents mostly rely on cars to get around, but New Jersey Transit provides limited public transportation between Egg Harbor Township and Atlantic City. “It depends on where you are,” Haviland says of the buses in the area. “If you live close to those routes, it’s great, but it doesn’t reach out to every part of the township.” Atlantic City International Airport is primarily in the township and has direct flights to several destinations in Florida.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
