Berino is a farming community with proximity to Las Cruces and El Paso
Berino is a bedroom and farming community about halfway between Las Cruces, New Mexico, and El Paso, Texas. Homes rest along a compact grid of streets in the center. From there, dairy farms and pecan orchards stretch outward over the fertile Rio Grande floodplain. “Berino is located really well for jobs in El Paso or Las Cruces,” says Eli Berger, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Legacy Elite, a third-generation Las Cruces resident. “People that live there are hard workers, and they really take care of each other.”
Farming thrives in Berino, where the Rio Grande's fertile soil nurtures generations of growers.
Berino offers a rural retreat with close access to city life in El Paso and Las Cruces.

Ranch-style houses and manufactured homes with some yard space
Tall pine trees, stone walls and chain-link fences provide a sense of privacy for homeowners. There are a few older adobe residences, several manufactured homes and some stucco-sided ranch-style houses. The median lot size is just over a quarter acre, which gives residents some room to “spread their wings,” Berger says. “You don’t have the city restrictions — some people have horses, chickens or pet goats.” Not many listings come on the market, but recent sales have ranged between $130,000 and $215,000. Berino has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, compared to 4 nationally.
Berino’s manufactured homes sit beside tidy yards and well-kept shade trees.
Ranch-style homes in Berino offer low profiles and open, sunlit living spaces.

Learning through the Gadsden Independent School District
The Gadsden Independent School District serves the community, and it earns a B-minus on Niche. Kids who live north of Berino Road can attend the B-minus-rated Vado Elementary School, and kids who live in the southern portion can go to Berino Elementary School, rated a C-plus. Gadsden Middle School and Gadsden High School both earn B-minus ratings. All four schools offer after-school programs run by the STEM Outreach Center. The programs provide a meal and homework help, followed by arts and crafts, dance classes or sports.
Gadsden Middle School is currently under reconstruction. Until the new building is completed, middle school classes are being held at other district schools, including Anthony Elementary School.
At Gadsden High School, learning and creativity happen every day.
Berino Elementary School fosters curiosity and a love for learning in every student.

Hiking, a community playground and a nearby speedway
At the heart of the community is the Berino Townsite, a grassy park with a shaded playground, basketball court and baseball field. There are also plenty of areas to hike or mountain bike through the nearby Organ and Franklin mountains, including the Sierra Vista Trail, which has a trailhead around 8 miles northeast. The Vado Speedway Park, about 5 miles northwest, hosts stock car races throughout the year.

Driving for groceries or a restaurant meal
The Berino Mini Mart rests beside the train tracks to the west of Berino. It stocks some produce and a few staple grocery items, but most residents do their shopping in Anthony or in the suburbs of El Paso. Lowe’s Mercado is about 6 miles south and The Outlet Shoppes at El Paso are less than 15 miles south. Nearby restaurants include Ernesto's Mexican Food and Tacos el Abuelo, both located in Anthony, New Mexico. Mi Casa Café, a truck-stop restaurant in Vado, serves American and Mexican comfort cuisine.

Interstate travel, nearby employment and other logistics
Nearby dairy and pecan farms, as well as a large indoor cannabis farm, provide some employment opportunities. Interstate 10 passes along the eastern edge of Berino, and Las Cruces and El Paso are both less than 30 miles away. Most people depend on cars for travel, although there’s a South Central Regional Transit District bus stop along Berino Road. The buses come every few hours, connecting riders to Anthony and El Paso. The closest emergency room is at The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus, less than 15 miles southeast, and the El Paso International Airport is about 30 miles away.
Area considerations
The region tends to have mild winters, but summer temperatures can exceed 100 degrees. Monsoon rains generally come through the area during the summer as well. They bring much-needed water for farmers but can cause flash flooding.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data.
