Indian Ridge offers popular eateries and suburban living along U.S. 62

Indian Ridge is a suburban East El Paso community with diverse housing options, popular restaurants and immediate access to U.S. Route 62. “There’s definitely going to be some retirees, people who have lived there since the ‘80s,” says Justin Cates, a Realtor with New Beginnings Realty who has sold dozens of homes on the Eastside. “Definitely military – you can’t go into any El Paso neighborhood and it not be probably 50% active-duty military.” Fort Bliss, El Paso’s largest military base, is less than 20 minutes up the freeway. Opportunities closer to home include the automation, manufacturing and contracting companies at the El Paso Business Park. “Most people in those areas are going to work your standard jobs – they’re going to work in construction, trades, plumbing, those kinds of things,” Cates says. Rows of ranch-style homes occupy the neighborhood’s three subdivisions, and competitive housing prices help Indian Ridge stand out among its peers.

Ranch-style and Spanish-influenced homes of all sizes are present

The neighborhood is separated into north, south and east sections, with Indian Ridge East having the newest and most expensive homes. However, Indian Ridge’s median sale price of $212,500 is below the citywide median of $263,000. Throughout Indian Ridge, homes up to 1,750 square feet in size have sold for $130,000 to $270,000. Larger properties go for $240,000 to $650,000. Almost all of the community’s homes were built from the 1980s to the 2000s, although a handful of homes were built as recently as the early 2020s. “These aren’t big, giant estates or anything like that,” Cates says. “These are modest, 1,300 square-foot homes, three-bed, two-bath kinds of things.” Ranch-style and Spanish Colonial Revival homes are common along Indian Ridge’s streets, which tend to feature sidewalks, cypress trees and front-yard foliage. Though the neighborhood is located along the busy Montana Avenue, which is slated for expansion, it’s insulated from its noise by a buffer of industrial and shopping areas.

Local eateries are known for their Tex-Mex flavors and late-night fun

Though Indian Ridge is mostly residential, a handful of restaurants and shops sit along its borders. Just a few blocks down Pebble Hills Boulevard, El Cometa is a local favorite, especially its foot-long tacos. “They’re covered in cheese, avocado, tomatoes and onions…It’s really a pile of these taquitos, and it’s absolutely a must-have,” Cates says. “It’s one of those places where it’s open really, really late, and, at night, they can get a little crazy.” El Texano is another mainstay, offering a diverse menu of Tex-Mex dishes. Along U.S. Route 62, the colorfully lit Gringo Theory Patio Bar entertains customers with arcade games, table tennis and lawn games like cornhole and Giant Jenga. Nearby grocery options include Walmart, Albertsons and Food King.

Hanks High receives strong ratings from the state education agency

Students can attend the nearby Pebble Hills Elementary School, which receives a B-plus from Niche, before attending the B-rated J.M. Hanks Middle School and the B-plus-rated J.M. Hanks High School. Hanks High has scored high marks from the Texas Education Agency, which recognized its distinction in seven fields, from post-secondary readiness to strong math and science scores.

Nearby parks - and a bar - offer spaces for outdoor activities

Indian Ridge’s only parks are two grassy detention basins, but neighboring communities offer far more amenities. Pebble Hills Park includes a football field and a covered playground, while Indian Heights Park and Loma Linda Park also include playgrounds and picnic areas. Gringo Theory Patio Bar includes a “bark park” with an obstacle course and splash pool for dogs, and the bar serves pup cups and cookies to its canine visitors.

Indian Ridge provides highway access and proximity to health care

U.S. Route 62 connects Indian Ridge to Downtown El Paso within a 15-mile drive, while Fort Bliss and El Paso International Airport are each less than 10 miles down the highway. The nearest medical center, The Hospitals of Providence East Campus, is 3 miles west of Indian Ridge.
