Desirable schools in Polk
Built around its namesake elementary school, Polk sits on the Westside of El Paso, with a pleasant mix of quiet residential streets and convenient commercial drags. “It’s maybe a little older than some of the surrounding areas, from the mid-1980s on up,” says Patti Olivas, Associate Broker and Owner at Dan Olivas and Associates. “But Polk is probably one of the most desirable elementary schools in the city.”

Walking in Resler Canyon
While the more heavily residential area on the north end of the neighborhood lacks much green space, it’s not far from Polk’s parks. Resler Canyon, the largest park in the neighborhood, features an out-and-back trail for light hiking or walking the dog. Right across Mesa Street next to Coronado High School, Irvin J. Lambka Park has athletic facilities, including baseball and softball fields. While small neighborhood parks like Palo Verde Park offer playgrounds, the nearby Franklin Mountains State Park attracts residents for its hiking, mountain biking and camping. “In the neighborhoods you’ll see people walking, running or bicycling all the time,” Olivas says. “Some of the neighborhoods like Polk have paths for people. The area is really made for people to be outdoors.”
