Shearman Park
Ranch-style houses and manufactured homes
Most dwellings in Shearman Park are single-story ranch-style houses built between the late 1970s and the 1990s. "There's nothing new in the area. It is pretty built out, and there are no lots here," Bastraw says. Homes entering the market tend to have renovations such as new roofs and upgraded interiors. There are also manufactured homes in the northern corridor of the community. Home values sit below the metro and national averages. Residences tend to range in price from $125,000 to $250,000.Getting around Shearman Park and dust storms
Bus stops dot Angora Loop Avenue and Tiger Eye Drive. "There is a main road, [Dyer Street], that goes between Shearman Park and the rest of the northeast," Bastraw says. The route can lead to Downtown El Paso in about 15 miles, while the international border crossing is about 13 miles away. The summer brings dry temperatures that can exceed 100 degrees. The region is prone to dust storms, especially from late winter to spring.
Retail on Dyer Street and Cohen Entertainment District
In and around the community are service providers and auto shops. A Food King grocery store is about 3 miles down Dyer Street. "We do have an area that's fairly new," Bastraw says. "They have a new steakhouse and newer restaurants." The Cohen Entertainment District, about 5 miles west, includes a Great American Steakhouse and an AMC movie theater. "We also have Camp Cohen Waterpark there. We used to have a stadium, but it was knocked down. They are going to be building an amphitheater. The city just approved it," Bastraw adds.Visiting Jorge Montalvo Park for games
Shearman Park has a few outdoor spaces near the southern corridor. Jorge Montalvo Park stretches the length of multiple blocks. The green space has playgrounds, a basketball court and a paved walking path. The onsite sporting fields are often used as practice and game fields for youth leagues. Summerlin Park is a smaller public space with a play area and an open field.Learning on Purple Star campuses
Students attend nearby schools on Purple Star campuses, meaning they have access to programs that support military families. Desertaire Elementary, located on Tiger Eye Drive next to the neighborhood, has a B-plus grade on Niche. Students move on to Parkland Pre-Engineering Middle and Parkland High. Both schools have B grades on Niche.Over 45 years of the NorthEaster Parade
Mimbela Family NorthEaster Parade is an El Paso tradition that goes back over 45 years. Today, the event welcomes over 100 floats and more than 10,000 visitors to the city's northeastern side.
