Spacious homes in a secluded setting

Pheasant Ridge is an upscale neighborhood surrounded by fields and trees on the northeastern outskirts of Elkhart. Some of the Elkhart area’s largest houses are on the winding streets and cul-de-sacs of the neighborhood, about 1 mile south of Exit 96 on the Indiana Toll Road. “While it is in a very secluded location with tall trees lining the quiet streets, it is close to many local attractions, as well as the Indiana Toll Road, for ease of access to destinations in Illinois, Michigan and Ohio,” says Lucinda Lowe, Realtor at Berkshire Hathaway Home Services.

Plenty of space to call home

Pheasant Ridge was once like much of the landscape between Elkhart and Bristol – acres of open land. “It’s located in a serene and wooded area,” Lowe says. That made the area an ideal setting to build a neighborhood with large houses and lots – and that’s just what happened. Contemporary custom houses in Pheasant Ridge have brick or vinyl-sided exteriors and an average size exceeding 3,600 square feet – nearly twice the national average. Every house in the neighborhood has an attached multicar garage, which is a much-appreciated feature during Northern Indiana’s harsh winters. Recent sales in Pheasant Ridge range between $300,000 and $635,000.

A private neighborhood park and nearby natural wonders

Pheasant Ridge Park is a private park — maintained by the HOA — for neighborhood residents. It features a basketball court, tennis courts, sand volleyball court and a full playground. Residents are also 2 miles from Elkhart Bog Nature Preserve, which the Indiana Department of Natural Resources opened in 2022 after a 30-year restoration project. Limestone gravel trails and a floating boardwalk snake through the unique 228-acre marshy and wooded landscape, which is more typically found in northern Michigan and Wisconsin than Indiana. Pheasant Ridge is about a mile away from the Six Span Bridge Boat Launch, making it a convenient location for accessing the Upper Saint Joseph River. For horse owners, proximity to the boarding stables and 120 acres of riding trails at nearby Red Oak Farm is a plus.

Close to Eastwood Elementary

Eastwood Elementary is less than a five-minute drive from Pheasant Ridge. Eastwood’s enrollment is among the smallest in Elkhart’s school district, but that hasn’t prevented the school’s robotics club from earning a state ranking. Eastwood earns a C-plus rating on Niche. Though the neighborhood is northeast of Elkhart, students attend Pierre Moran Middle School on the city’s south side. Pierre Moran has a C-rating. High schoolers begin with a year at the Elkhart Freshman Academy before advancing to B-minus-rated Elkhart High.

RV Hall of Fame a nearby attraction

Elkhart is known as the RV Manufacturing Capital of the World, and that heritage is reflected at the Recreational Vehicle and Manufactured Housing Hall of Fame and Museum, which is directly north of the neighborhood. The interactive museum features walk-through examples of RVs and manufactured homes dating from the 1930s to the present. Orthwein Pavilion, located on the Hall of Fame campus, hosts RV shows, boat shows, car shows and other events throughout the year.

Secluded, yet still convenient by car

Pheasant Ridge’s secluded location makes a car a necessity. But with a car, it is highly convenient to either downtown Elkhart, 7 miles away, or Bristol, 4 miles away. The Indiana Toll Road, also known as Interstate 90, is a 31-mile trip to South Bend International Airport and about a two-hour drive to Chicago.

Stacks of pancakes, plus Mexican and Italian eats

Pheasant Ridge is close to multiple restaurants just south of the Saint Joseph River on County Road 17, including Rulli’s Italian Restaurant and Don Jose’s Mexican Grill and Cantina. Stacks Pancake House is a breakfast favorite in the same vicinity. Martin’s Super Market on Cobblestone Boulevard is the nearest grocery store, and Cubiletes Mexican Bar and Grill is a popular restaurant in the same shopping center, which is 3 miles west of the neighborhood.

We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
