The Place at Corkscrew offers a resort lifestyle and a close community

The Place at Corkscrew is a master-planned community that embraces its resort lifestyle. There are countless recreational amenities, as well as restaurants and events. “One of my clients said when they get done with work, they don’t have to go anywhere on the weekend,” says Renee Malachowski, Realtor with Premiere Plus Realty, who has sold in the neighborhood since its founding. There is a mix of residents, from young families to retired snowbirds. One commonality is that many people come from out of state. “I relate it to your freshman year of college because so many people are new to the area, so they’re all looking to meet new people,” says Kelly Olin, The Place resident and cofounder and Realtor at RESIDENCE | eXp Realty.

New Traditional homes with deep lots have a wide price range

Sidewalks separate the wide streets from manicured lawns decorated with palm trees. The average lot size is nearly 11,000 square feet, although some are over a quarter of an acre. “One of the things that’s unique about [The Place] is that we have some of the deepest lots in the area, which means long driveways and big backyards.” Many properties have pools in their backyard or overlook the neighborhood’s private lake. Two builders are responsible for the New Traditional houses built between 2018 and 2023: Pulte Homes and Lennar. Many homes have Craftsman or Spanish influences. Homes generally range from $450,000 to $1 million. Most properties that are larger than 3,000 square feet cost between $1 million and $1.6 million. Olin says there are many factors contributing to the wide price range, including upgrades, view, the floorplan’s demand and builder. “If there is a pool, that could be a $100,000 premium right there,” she says.

According to First Street, The Place at Corkscrew has an extreme risk of hurricanes but a minimal risk of flooding.

Community amenities include pickleball, a pool, a gym and events

Recreational amenities like pickleball and a dog park are built into The Place. The resort-style pool has a 100-foot waterslide, a shallow end with a splash park and firepits and cabanas. The two-story fitness center includes a full gym, a studio and a kids-only area. Residents head to the clubhouse for events such as karaoke and bingo, and the Bourbon Bar & Grill and Barefoot Bar & Grill regularly have live music. “I explain it to buyers as living on a cruise ship,” Olin says. “You can be as active or inactive as you want to be.”

Many residents are also members of the Old Corkscrew Golf Club. The 18-hole course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, is open to the public; however, members receive priority tee times. The nearby Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed (CREW) Wildlife and Environmental Area spans over 28,000 acres, and allows fishing, hunting, camping and over 30 miles of multiuse trails.

Residents dine at Barefoot Bar & Grill and other restaurants

Living in The Place at Corkscrew comes with access to private dining options. Barefoot Bar & Grill has indoor and outdoor seating. “You can sit at the bar in your swimsuit and towel, or order a burger and dine outdoors or by the pool,” Olin says. Besides serving standard bar food, Malachowski says that the menu has “nicer food, like chicken and salmon.” The Flip Flop Cafe has coffee, sandwiches and ice cream. Olin says the Bourbon Bar is the community’s watering hole, and that people are “hopping into their golf cart and riding to the bar to have a drink with friends on Friday and Saturday.”

Groceries and other restaurants are less than a mile away, at The Shoppes at Verdana Village, which is anchored by a Publix. “They also have a nail salon, a UPS and other restaurants,” Malachowski says. She recommends Legno Italian Kitchen, which has pasta, steak and wood-fired pizza.

Students can attend well-rated Lee County schools

The Place is part of the School District of Lee County, which offers school choice through charter schools and Choice Applications. Pinewoods Elementary School earns an A-minus from Niche, while Bonita Springs Middle Center for the Arts and Estero High School receive a B. Students at Estero High can enroll in career and technical education programs like the Medical Academy and the school’s culinary arts program. Capstone Academy is a nearby charter school that serves students from kindergarten through eighth grade.

Golf carts and cars are the main modes of transportation

Many residents ride their golf carts to the clubhouse. Malachowski says that she also sees many people, especially children, using electric scooters. Otherwise, The Place is car-dependent, with Corkscrew Road leading about 10 miles to Interstate 75 and Estero ’s city center. The closest emergency room is also about 10 miles away, at Lee Health Coconut Point. Southwest Florida International Airport is about 15 miles away, in Fort Myers.
