Midtown is near eastern Evansville amenities
Midtown is an Evansville community along Lloyd Expressway, one of the city’s main thoroughfares. Older homes make up most of the area, with the exception of larger, New Traditional houses in the Johnson Place subdivision. While it is mostly residential, the neighborhood's location means that residents have easy access to restaurants like Casey's Dugout and the 88-acre Evansville State Hospital Park, which has walking trails and athletic fields. Downtown Evansville is about a 3-mile drive.
A wide range of housing styles and prices fill the neighborhood
Oak trees shade Midtown's sidewalks, with grassy front lawns decorated with gardens and shrubbery. Driveways lead to one and two-car garages, and there is ample room for street parking. Realtor Nikki Davis with F.C. Tucker Emge says there is a “wide range of home options,” both in price and style. Bungalows and ranch styles share the neighborhood with Colonial Revivals and Cape Cods, mostly built between the 1920s and 1950s. According to Davis, most of Midtown has “smaller, affordable homes.” Prices generally fall between $120,000 and $350,000, although some investment properties can cost as little as $45,000. Davis notes that there is one exception to these prices: the large homes in the Johnson Place subdivision. While none of these homes have hit the market recently, most are valued at over $600,000. Midtown receives a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4.

The east side of Evansville has options for shopping and dining. “Lincoln Avenue, from St. James to Vann, has a wonderful mix of local small businesses,” Davis says. These range from Rare Bird Gifts & Goods to Dukane Skin Care, a day spa with facials and massages. Restaurants include Casey’s Dugout, a baseball-themed pizza parlor, and Manna Grill, which serves Mediterranean food. Eastland Mall is about 2 miles away, with department stores like Macy’s and popular brands, including American Eagle and Old Navy. Nearby grocery stores include Schnucks, which is in the same shopping center as Barnes & Noble and Dollar Tree. Target, Walmart and Home Depot are within 3 miles.

The hospital grounds offer outdoor recreation for Midtown residents
Evansville State Hospital has a public park that borders the neighborhood. Davis describes the park as a “wonderful recreation area,” with soccer and baseball fields, a disc golf course and Woodmere Dog Park. Trail with a Tale is a storybook walk on the grounds, where signs with pages of a picture book line the path. The book is switched out every month. People can stroll through the nearby Southwestern Indiana Master Gardener Display Garden, walking past flowers, berries and herbs. Wesselman Woods is a nature preserve just north of the neighborhood that features the Nature Playscape, a structure mostly made from logs, rocks and native plants. The McCollough branch of the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Libraries is about 2 miles away. In addition to book clubs for all ages, patrons can join improv classes and crafting clubs and spend time with the library’s therapy dog, Jack.
