Family-friendly attractions offer much to do
Red River Zoo is home to hundreds of animals and is a regional attraction. What makes it unique is its focus on cold-climate species, especially those found in the mountains of the Himalayas and China like the Pallas’s cat and the endangered red panda, which they have successfully bred. The zoo offers events throughout the year, including fun runs, brew fests and Holiday Nights, where visitors can stroll the parks under festive decorations. If being separated from gray wolves by a sheet of glass is not pulse-quickening enough, Thunder Road sits on the other end of the neighborhood and features go-karts, bumper cars and laser tag. Two miniature golf courses, an arcade and food offerings make it one of the most popular family outings in the area, and it’s a favorite spot for birthday parties.Indoor and outdoor recreation covers all seasons
In the midst of the neighborhood, Autumn Fields Park offers green space and a simple playground, walkable for many of the nearby families. The major focus is the complex the neighborhood is named after. Anderson Park is home to a four-field softball complex, other baseball and softball fields, and the Tharaldson Baseball Complex. Cornerstone Bank Arena hosts organized and drop-in hockey across two sheets of ice, while across the parking lot, the F-M Curling Club features six curling sheets and is home to hundreds of members. Events can range from club bonspiels to national competitions – the club has hosted Club National Championships, including the 2024 edition, where the hometown Team Berg won Gold.Solid schools provide opportunities for student athletes
Students from Anderson Park attend West Fargo Public Schools, and start out at Independence Elementary School, which is graded a B by Niche. They’ll move on to Liberty Middle School for grades six through eight, which is graded a B-minus. Sheyenne High School also earns a B grade, and the Mustangs are known for being a top athletics school, ranked seventh overall in the state by Niche. Most recently, the boys' basketball team took home the 2024 Class AA State Title, a first for the school – they are also regularly competitive in softball as well as track and field.Modern homes overshadowed by apartment complexes
Construction in Anderson Park is an ongoing part of life as housing continues to spring up in the growing southwest of Fargo – the median build year is 2011, and every home in the community is from the new millennium. Modern twin and single-family homes feature peaked roofs, vinyl siding, and brick accents in the modern traditional design. Small yards are normal, and every home features at least an oversized two-stall garage, with three- and four-stall garages commanding a premium. Apartments comprise more than half the housing, with three- and four-story mid-rise buildings taking up the skyline. Twin homes generally sell for between $250,000 and $325,000, while single-family homes regularly get from $325,000 to $500,000. Condos, which have monthly condo fees in addition to the sale price, tend to go for $350,000 while reaching up to $500,000.Hockey-crazy Fargoans and events for every season
Mike Amundson is the Executive Director of West Fargo Events, which puts on events throughout the region, from concerts to pro bull riding to theatre plays. But one of his favorite things for him is checking out hockey games, like in the nearby Scheels Arena, home to the Fargo Force of the USHL. “There’s a great hockey culture in the area,” he says, “We have junior hockey in the area, college hockey, USHL is here in town. It’s a big part of our community and our local culture is really tied in with that.” On top of hockey, events like the Red River Valley Fair in West Fargo, the Downtown Fargo Street Fair in July, and wintertime’s Frostival bring community members out across the metro for 10 days of festivities to kick the winter blues. The Windbreak, located within the neighborhood, offers regular live music on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.A nationally recognized winery tucked away
Local and regional chains make up much of the shopping and dining options, including Pizza Ranch, Slim Chickens and Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers with their vintage twist on the American counter-serve hamburger shop. However, tucked away in the mixed industrial and commercial warehouses, Prairie Rose Meadery is a nationally recognized meadery with awards including a Gold Medal in the National Honey Board’s competition. North along 45th Street, a cluster of shopping centers includes national chains, a Home Depot and a Walmart Supercenter along with other retail. For groceries, residents can head to Cash Wise Foods West Fargo to the west, or Hornbacher’s to the south.Easy access to the region as major roadways intersect
With Interstate 94 running along the northern border and Interstate 29 down the eastern side, Anderson Park is easy to get in and out of, even to take the 7-mile trip to downtown Fargo. “Commute times are probably 15-20 minutes at most,” says Danni Melquist, Director of Marketing for Visit Fargo-Moorhead. “Public transportation is not common, but we do have a bus system… most people who live here utilize a personal car.” MATBUS, the area’s public transit service, has a handful of stops for Routes 14 and 18 on the edge of the neighborhood. Sanford Medical Center, the region’s most modern facility, is less than a mile west, reachable within five minutes by car. Microsoft’s Great Plains campus is 2 miles south and generally a five-mile drive. Hector International Airport, offering service across the region, is 8 miles north, nearly a straight shot up I-29 and usually less than 15 minutes away by car.
