Veranda Bay features new homes on the Intracoastal Waterway

Veranda Bay is bringing new waterfront homes to one of the last stretches of undeveloped land along the Intracoastal Waterway on Florida’s east coast. Houses are rising on the shore, providing views of the inland waterway that winds along the country’s Atlantic and Gulf coasts. These waterfront views, along with a community marina, emphasize a relaxed, coastal lifestyle in this gated development just outside Flagler Beach. If the Intracoastal doesn’t provide enough recreation, the ocean is less than 10 minutes away.

How much homes cost in Veranda Bay

Both nationally known and locally based homebuilders are selling homes in Veranda Bay. For example, Dream Finders Homes and Toll Brothers are building Craftsman- and ranch-style-inspired floor plans. AR Homes, Hulbert Homes, ICI Homes and Olsen Custom Homes offer custom construction. Home prices range from the low $500,000s to the low $700,000s, but custom construction costs can vary widely.

Veranda Bay’s price tags are less than what’s typical in nearby coastal communities. To the north, new homes in Saint Augustine Beach often sell for more than $1 million, and new construction to the south in Ormond By The Sea regularly costs $700,000 or more. “[Flagler County is] one of the areas in Florida where you can have the coastal lifestyle without the hefty price tags you find all over the state of Florida in the coastal communities,” says Michelle McKinney, leader of The Anchor Group at LPT Realty and a Flagler County resident.

Amenities include a marina, dog park and pickleball courts

The community’s defining amenity is a marina along the Intracoastal Waterway. Residents who moor their boats at the marina can hop on anytime and cruise the inland channel up and down Florida’s eastern seaboard. There’s plenty to do outside the water, as Veranda Bay’s other amenities include:

  • A swimming pool
  • A dog park
  • A fitness center
  • Pickleball and tennis courts
Two miles outside of Veranda Bay, people skate, paddle and play at Wadsworth Park. The public green space features a skate park, a fishing lake and a canoe launch for exploring nearby marshes.

A short drive to Flagler Beach

It’s a 3-mile drive to the orange-hued sands of Flagler Beach. After a day of swimming and sunbathing, hit North Ocean Shore Boulevard to explore the strip’s restaurants and bars. Finn’s Beachside Pub hosts live music on a rooftop bar with ocean views, and, a few blocks away, Romero’s Tuscany Italian Restaurant prepares seafood dishes, such as shrimp scampi and flounder picata. Meanwhile, a shopping center that’s only a mile from Veranda Bay is home to Publix and a few eateries, including breakfast spot Hi Tulip Cafe.

Career pathways at Flagler Palm Coast High

The neighborhood is served by three highly rated public schools: Old Kings Elementary School, Buddy Taylor Middle School and Flagler Palm Coast High School. Flagler Palm Coast High’s Diploma Plus Program lets students enroll in career-focused pathways and potentially earn industry certifications. The program’s nine pathways include agritechnology, digital media and a fire academy. Those schools aren’t the only options for children in Veranda Bay. Florida’s statewide open enrollment policy means families can request their children attend public schools outside their attendance zones, as long as the schools have enough room.

I-95 leads to Daytona Beach, Jacksonville and Orlando

Flagler Beach is home to a mix of people who commute for work and whose working days are over. “There are lots of families in Flagler Beach, but also a lot of people who worked their whole lives and want to retire to the beaches,” McKinney says. Interstate 95, less than 5 miles from Veranda Bay, extends up and down the state’s east coast. Locals can use it to reach destinations such as:

  • Daytona Beach International Airport, which has nonstop flights to Boston, New York and more, is 25 miles away.
  • Jacksonville, Florida’s most populous city, is 70 miles away.
  • Orlando, home to attractions such as Walt Disney World Resort, is 75 miles away.
