Mill Creek Falls is about 3 miles from downtown Fort Smith

Mill Creek Falls, on the south side of Fort Smith, is a mix of homes, businesses and industrial offices like Quantum Plastics. Towson Avenue and other thoroughfares run through the neighborhood, providing residents with quick access to city amenities in downtown Fort Smith and Creekmore Park. “It’s easy to get around, it’s easy to navigate,” says Emily Alvarado, a lifelong resident of Fort Smith and property manager with Collective Capital Partners, LLC. “It is a large city, but we don’t have a lot of traffic.”

While most use cars, people can bike, walk or bus to get around

Mill Creek Falls is largely car-dependent, although Fort Smith Transit manages a bus route along Towson Avenue. The road merges with U.S. Route 271 and eventually intersects Interstate 540. “Most people in our area drive, but we have a lot of people who bike or walk around, too,” Alvarado says. Fort Smith Regional Airport is a small airport about 5 miles away that only offers connecting flights to Dallas - Fort Worth International Airport. The closest emergency room is Baptist Health - Fort Smith, about a 2-mile drive.

Chains, franchises and local restaurants on Towson Avenue

Restaurants and businesses line Towson Avenue, one of the neighborhood’s main drags. There are several chains and franchises, like Western Sizzlin, and locally owned options. Fried Rice 2 is a Thai restaurant. “The chicken fried rice is probably their most popular dish,” Alvarado says. At La Huerta Grill, daily specials include discounted margaritas and entrees like chimichangas. Downtown Fort Smith is only about 3 miles away and includes local favorites like AJ’s Oyster House. Residents can get groceries at Aldi and find fresh produce at the Fort Smith Farmer’s Market. The market runs every Saturday morning throughout the year and on Wednesday mornings from late spring to early fall. Dollar General and Sutherlands are also in Mill Creek Falls, and Walmart is less than 1 mile away.

Creekmore Park is a short drive from Mill Creek Falls

Creekmore Park, one of the largest parks in the city, is about 3 miles away. “It’s a great park for walking and running, and they do a lot of great activities there,” Alvarado says. Besides a playground and walking trail, amenities include an outdoor pool open from Memorial Day weekend to early August. Families can also play a round of mini golf at Creekmore Park Putter, an 18-hole course. In December, the Creekmore Express Train, a miniature train that travels through the park, becomes the Creekmore Holiday Express and rides past holiday light displays. The main branch of the Fort Smith Public Library is in a contemporary building across the street from Creekmore Park. The nearby Stagecoach Park has a playground and basketball court.

Most residents are renters, and there are several apartment buildings, like the ones Alvarado manages, in the area. One or two-bedroom apartments can cost $600 to $900 a month.Mill Creek Falls receives a CAP Index Crime Score of 10 out of 10, higher than the national average of 4 out of 10.
