A small residential neighborhood in northeast Fort Wayne
Tucked in the northeast corner of Fort Wayne, about 7 miles from the heart of downtown, Countrybrook residents enjoy their small, relaxed suburb. “I think very highly of this area,” says Rick Widmann, a lifelong resident of Fort Wayne and a broker with Century 21 Bradley Realty. “Being close to shopping and schools makes the Countrybrook subdivision a magnet for families, and the neighborhood has enjoyed great appreciation and value over the years.” Add in established, well-maintained residences along quiet suburban streets that practically invite kids to ride bikes and adults to walk dogs, and it’s easy to see why there’s a strong demand for homes in the neighborhood.

Shopping and dining in nearly every direction
According to Widdman, the neighborhood’s proximity to shopping makes it a desirable area. Conveniently located within 10 minutes of three different shopping centers, Countrybrook allows residents to shop, dine and stock up on necessities. To the northeast, the Chapel Ridge Shopping Center offers home décor and clothing at Kohl’s and Marshall’s and groceries at Walmart and Meijer. Georgetown Square is a go-to for specialty shops, such as JJ's Antiques & Consignment Shop and Build Your Dreams Legos, while savings await at Big Lots, Dollar Tree and Target at the Northwood Plaza. The shopping centers also have a range of dining experiences, from chain restaurants to coffee shops, a pancake house, Mexican grills and more.

Spanning over 218 acres, Kreager Park sits just south of the neighborhood. Folks enjoy hiking along the park’s walking loops, which connect to the 26-mile Rivergreenway Trail that connects Fort Wayne with New Haven. Kreager Park is also home to Indiana’s first Boundless Playground, called Taylor’s Dream, which features three different bays of equipment that can be accessed by all children, including those in wheelchairs. Local schools that serve the community
Schools in the area are part of Fort Wayne Community Schools. Students often attend Glenwood Park Elementary, graded B-minus by Nitch; here, kindergartners through fifth graders let their imagination and creativity run wild at the school’s outdoor science lab that acts as a center for writing, art and scientific exploration. Glenwood Park students can then go on to attend Blackhawk Middle School, graded B-minus, and Snider High School, graded B. High schoolers who are interested in pursuing a medical career can choose to enroll in Snider’s Biomedical Sciences program of study. As part of Project Lead the Way, the national program offers specialized health-related courses that give kids the opportunity to explore potential vocations in the medical field and prepare for challenging college-level science courses.

Smaller, more affordable homes in Countrybrook
It’s easy to see that the residents of Countrybrook take pride in their homes, most of which were built between the 1970s and early 1980s. A walk down the neighborhood’s pristine sidewalks uncovers manicured lawns along tree-lined cul-de-sacs and streets. “People are putting money back into their homes and taking care of them, and they’re able to enjoy higher valuations because of it,” Widmann says. One-level ranch homes make up the majority of residences in Countrybrook, commonly featuring window shutters and two-car garages, though two-story split-levels and Colonial Revival homes can also be found among the mix. The average size of homes here is just under 2,000 square feet, and buyers can expect to pay about $122 per square foot. Prices typically range between $170,000 to $250,000. “The homes in Countrybrook are a little more affordable than others in the area because they are generally smaller,” Widmann says.
