Some of Fort Wayne’s suburbs are on the city's outskirts, inconvenient to reach and isolated from downtown—but not Crestwood. This neighborhood’s competitively priced midcentury homes are in demand. “The biggest thing is affordability,” says Realtor Andrea Gates of Coldwell Banker Real Estate Group. “A first-time homebuyer could own a home here and probably pay less than they would in rent.” Positioned between three thoroughfares, this neighborhood offers direct access to the city and surrounding areas. Families benefit from Northwood Park and Northwood Elementary sharing a campus walkable from the community’s south end. Northcrest Shopping Center is less than 2 miles away.

Less pricey ranch style homes
Winding cul-de-sacs make up all of Crestwood. Lots smaller than a quarter of an acre feature homes built in the early 1960s. Ranch styles with private driveways are the most prevalent. “They were built kind of like the old Sears-style homes, with 1x4s instead of 2x4s, so they have very thin walls,” says Gates, referring to the homes' interior framing materials. “It’s noticeable when you walk through them.” Buyers can expect to find these mid-century, three-bedroom builds priced between $160,000 and $220,000. Many homes in the area have undergone remodeling, giving them modern interiors while maintaining their classic exterior looks.
