New development is flourishing in Far Eastside neighborhood
Far Eastside is a section of Green Bay for buyers after that new home smell. Open land is limited in this 171-year-old city, but land availability makes Far Eastside a haven for construction. “There are quite a few big neighborhoods out there, big construction,” says Lisa Jossart, the vice president of economic development at the Greater Green Bay Chamber. More commercial amenities are sprouting nearby, too, giving residents closer access to stores and restaurants.
Housing inventory includes traditional homes and condos
Most houses taking shape in Far Eastside are in suburban-style subdivisions, with wide streets and manicured lawns. HOAs are common within these communities, and fees are often around $200 a month. New Traditional Craftsman styling is prevalent, with stone facades and attached garages. Many condos are also being built in the area, in addition to single-family homes. Existing homes in Far Eastside, dating from the 1960s and 1970s, sell for $290,000 to $370,000. The newer builds range from $410,000 to $650,000. Condos are priced from $400,000 to $680,000.
Green Bay schools nurture student interests
The Green Bay Area Public Schools District maintains a B grade from Niche. Depending on address, students in Far Eastside have a few choices for elementary and middle schools. One student pathway is Baird Elementary, which earns a C-plus from Niche, and offers extracurriculars from a book club to basketball teams. Middle schoolers might attend B-minus-rated Red Smith Middle, rated B-minus, which has student councils and forensics clubs. Preble High is rated B and has a dedicated culinary arts program. The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s 700-acre campus is just north of the neighborhood and counts psychology, computer science and accounting among its popular programs.
Outdoor spaces cater to a range of activities
The neighborhood’s Woods Golf Club has an 18-hole course open to the public. Those looking for competition can join one of the golf leagues at The Woods. The course is next to the Finger Road Softball Complex, which has four fields. Nearby Christa McAuliffe Park has more fields, a playground and direct access to the 2-mile Cedar Speeder and 1-mile Hickory Trickery paths within the Baird Creek trail system. “It’s a very actively used park,” Jossart says. “It’s a big park. There are soccer games and baseball games and picnics. It’s a city park, so you can rent it out and have events.” Residents are also close to the Triangle Sports area, which Jossart says is a draw for disc golf in the summer and sledding in the winter.
Local thoroughfare is an increasingly busy hub for businesses
Part of Mason Street cuts through Far Eastside. The stretch is home to the East Town shopping center, with Kohl’s, Marshalls, PetSmart and Aldi. Mason Street is also welcoming more and more eateries. “It’s got a buzz of activity,” Jossart says. Local chain Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe opened a location here in 2018, and its Kringles, a Danish pastry, are a hit. A new Wingstop debuted on Mason Street in 2025. Mackinaws Grill and Spirits, meanwhile, is one of the stalwarts on the roadway, open since 2002 and known for its fried perch.
Interstate access comes with the territory
Many Far Eastside residents are within about 3 miles of Interstate 43, which is accessible via Mason Street and Wisconsin Highway 57. The Aurora BayCare Medical Center, just off I-43, has 167 beds and an emergency department. The Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport is roughly 14 miles away using I-43 and Wisconsin Highway 172.
Area park comes alive with music during the summer
Christa McAuliffe Park hosts free Tuesday-night Music in the Park concerts during the summer. The park also has an Earth Day Eco-Fair in April with nature activities and food trucks.
