A newer subdivision with its own park and school
On the quiet northeast side of Green Bay, Red Smith is a newer suburb full of amenities. Red Smith was named after a sportswriter from Green Bay who later earned a Pulitzer Prize for his work. The neighborhood is home to a park and school that share its name, both within walking distance of homes. This neighborhood attracts people looking for newer homes while providing the amenities that residents love just around the corner. Additionally, being on this side of the city means residents are close to Lake Michigan for better access to the water than living in neighborhoods downtown. “Some streets even have views of the Bay,” says Green Bay resident and Realtor Becky Buckland with Coldwell Banker.

New Traditionals built within the last 10 years
Red Smith’s wide streets are lined with New Traditional homes built between 2007 and 2023. “A lot of the homes in the neighborhood are new or newer,” Buckland says. “Like within the last 10 years. People like the new.” Homes here typically sell between $400,000 and $600,000. On the southern side, some duplexes are also available between $300,000 and $325,000. The neighborhood’s age means that the trees are younger here, still just saplings in the newest parts of Red Smith, but they still add a pop of color in the summer and fall. While the neighborhood doesn’t have traditional sidewalks, the northern side has a paved walkway that goes between houses, leading to the school and park.

Walking through the neighborhood to Red Smith School
Sharing the same name as the neighborhood, Red Smith School serves grades kindergarten through eighth grade and receives a C-plus ranking from Niche. Because it sits at the heart of the community, students can walk to school from their homes. “There’s busing too,” Buckland assures. “It just depends on how far you want your child to walk.” Preble High School offers two special programs—Culinary Arts Program and Certified Nursing Assistant Program—where students can learn and earn real-world experience in these fields. Preble earns a B from Niche.

Cooling off in the splash pad at Red Smith Park
Red Smith Park is 24 acres of recreational space within the neighborhood, offering a playground and athletic facilities like tennis courts and soccer fields. In the summer, people come from all around Green Bay to cool off in the splash pad. In the colder months, the ice rink opens for skating and hockey. University of Wisconsin – Green Bay (UWGB) is just outside of Red Smith, offering tree-shaded trails throughout the campus, including the popular UWGB Arboretum Trail. Dishes of the month at Black Sheep Pub and Uncle Mike's Bake Shoppe
While Red Smith has its school and park so close to home, residents will have to venture beyond their community for restaurants and grocery stores. Black Sheep Pub and Grill serves traditional pub food and keeps their menu fresh and interesting with a pizza, burger and steak of the month. Located in East Town shopping center, Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe is known for its kringles—a Danish pastry made with 36 layers of folded dough. Broadway farmers' markets and downtown live music
