Colfax is home to subdivisions, countryside and a farmers market

Colfax’s healthy soil originally attracted farmers from Virginia and Pennsylvania who settled the area in the 1700s, and the community continues to draw farmers from around the region to the Robert G. Shaw Piedmont Triad Farmers Market. The farmers market encompasses five buildings and is open seven days a week, putting a wide selection of fresh produce within a 3-mile drive of Colfax homes. It’s fitting that the farmers market, which brings together farmers from the countryside and shoppers from Greensboro, is in Colfax, a community that combines the rural landscape on the outskirts of the city with subdivisions and direct access to Interstate 40.

A look at houses and prices in Colfax

Colfax has a varied housing mix that spans from modest properties to custom builds. “You can find investment properties and fixer-uppers, all the way up to million-dollar properties,” says Bonnie Owens, a broker at Mantle Realty. The area leans toward single-family homes, including all-brick ranch-style homes, traditional two-story layouts and spacious properties with pools and multiple garages. Colfax is a good spot for homebuyers who want some privacy, as nearly half of the homes come with an acre or more of land. Prices usually vary from the mid-$200,000s to the upper $500,000s, but some of the community’s largest homes have sold from the lower $700,000s to roughly $1.3 million.

Fresh produce and antique trucks at the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market

Any day of the week, you can stroll through the buildings of the Robert G. Shaw Piedmont Triad, where stalls sell berries, flowers and jellies. There's even a refrigerated facility where grocery stores and restaurants buy produce wholesale. From time to time, special events pop up at the farmers market, including antique truck shows and an Asian Food and Cultural Festival.
