Where locals are well-connected to Greensboro and each other
Whitehall is a well-positioned suburb on the north side of Greensboro, near lakes and parks for recreation and Interstate 840 for zooming around the Gate City. “Whitehall is a really hot area to be in right now,” says John Welch, broker and owner of John Welch Builders and Realty. “It’s close to everything that someone would need, whether that’s your job, shopping or restaurants.” Just as the highway connects the neighborhood to the rest of Greensboro, events and activities keep residents connected to each other. “Whitehall has a great sense of community,” says Susan Lowe, Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway who has been selling homes across the Triad for two decades. “There’s a lot of interaction there – there are walking groups, and at least once a month, residents will go out to lunch together. It’s a great way to introduce new people to the neighborhood.”

A townhouse community
Whitehall’s housing stock consists exclusively of 1990s-era townhouses. Most are single-story, but some two-stories lie on the neighborhood’s east end. Townhouses sit in groups of three or four, with individual driveways and garages and modest, manicured lawns with a tall tree out front. Grassy yards separate each group of houses, shaded by occasional trees. Two-bedroom townhouses on average offer around 1,400 square feet of interior space. Home prices range from $280,000 to $400,000.

Student organizations at Page High
Jesse Wharton Elementary gets an overall A-minus from Niche, while Mendenhall Middle receives a B. Four miles south of Whitehall, Page High earns a B-plus. Page High clubs include debate and competitive speech, Future Business Leaders of America and Page beautification.
Interstate 840 provides easy access to the entire city
Interstate 840 bounds the neighborhood to the north. “I’ve never found it to be noisy because the highway has barriers,” Lowe says, referring to the forest that separates homes from the interstate. “And it’s only one side of the neighborhood that’s next to the highway.” If anything, Lowe finds Whitehall’s proximity to I-840, which forms the northern half of the Greensboro Urban Loop, to be very advantageous. “We never would have thought that the highways would have so much impact on bringing people and businesses into Greensboro. Since I-840 loops around Greensboro, you have access to most of the town.” Ramps to this interstate sit 1.5 miles east and west of the neighborhood. Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital is 5.5 miles south, and Downtown Greensboro is 6.5 miles south.
Pocket parks, ponds and a boat launch at Lake Townsend
Although an HOA neighborhood, Whitehall does not offer community amenities. “There’s no HOA clubhouse, but the nice thing about that is it means people will gather naturally instead,” Lowe says. A few pocket parks sit in adjacent neighborhoods. Three Meadows Park offers a playground, swings and a picnic table, while Sheridan Park features a playground and a baseball diamond. Two miles to the southwest, Country Park has paved trails, playgrounds and five picnic shelters. The park’s ponds can be used for fishing or pedal boats, which are available for 30-minute sessions. Additionally, the sprawling green space has two leash-free dog parks, for large and small canines. On Saturdays and Sundays during the warmer months and select holidays, a free shuttle runs through the park from noon until 6 PM every 10 to 15 minutes. Skateland USA North invites locals to enjoy glow-in-the-dark roller-skating. Sailors launch into the water from Lake Townsend Marina’s boat ramps.
Whitehall residents can enjoy the tranquility of being out on Lake Brandt.
