Gently curving roads lead to multiple connected developments built starting in the 1960s. Older houses in Verdae are primarily bungalows and ranchers, and new developments inspired by colonial houses continue to be built today. A student growing up in the Verdae neighborhood may attend Greenville County School District public schools. Elementary school students can attend the Sterling School, which also offers a selective middle school program for gifted and talented learners. The school earns an A grade on Niche. “While all of Greenville’s public schools are well regarded, Sterling School in particular is known as a really desirable school," says Bothof. "Students can stay for elementary and middle school and join an established educational community.” For high school, students may attend J. L. Mann High Academy, which earns an A-minus on Niche.

Gower Estates Park offers a leisure area with basketball and tennis courts, picnic facilities, a playground and walking trails. Locals can also book tee times at the Preserve at Verdae, a par-72 golf course with a practice range and putting green. For those seeking an escape from the city, Paris Mountain State Park is 10 miles north of the neighborhood and provides 15 miles of public forest—perfect for a weekend camping trip. “Paris Mountain State Park offers a lot for families," says Bothof. "We go there in the summer to the lakeside beach. It feels like you’re way out of town, but you’re really not that far from home."

A stone’s throw from downtown Greenville
Verdae’s residential areas sit along both sides of US-276/Laurens Road, one of east Greenville’s major thoroughfares. The neighborhood is also connected to the greater area through Interstate 385 along the north side, Pleasantburg Drive to the west and Interstate 85 to the south. Residents can drive 3 miles north along Laurens Road or Augusta Street to get to downtown Greenville. The Greenville Downtown Airport is conveniently located on Verdae’s west side for private flights, while commercial flights depart from Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, 9 miles northeast of the neighborhood.
