Front-row access to Greenville's ample amenities
A historic neighborhood once a hub for soft drink production, West End has since carved out an identity as an urban-suburban residential pocket between Greenville’s downtown and arts districts. Residents here have front-row access to all the amenities of a fast-paced, growing metropolis. “The West End is without a doubt the hottest area in Greenville right now,” says Missy Rich, a Realtor with Allen Tate and resident of West End. “It’s rapidly changing and expanding because of the location. Virtually everything from parks to restaurants and shops are within walking distance.”
Reborn from a history of trade the West End still shows signs of its past.

Early 20th century homes mingle with modern new builds and condos
Homes from the early 1900s, including bungalows and American Foursquares, mingle with Tudor-inspired new builds and towering modern condo complexes. “With all the new construction and the older houses being renovated, the area has seen prices nearly triple in the last 3-to-4 years,” Rich says. One-to-three-bedroom houses in need of refurbishing and modern upgrades are priced from $500,000 to $825,000. Newly built condos with patios and larger, renovated three-to-five-bedroom properties are listed between $945,000 and $1.3 million. Porch-sitting is part of the culture in West End, with rocking chairs and bench swings situated near the entryways of homes. Modest lawns connect to an extensive network of sidewalks, making the rest of the city reachable on foot.
Cottages to Condos West End has every type of homes available at a variety of price points.
West End residents can choose from apartments or condos in addition to detached homes.

Magnet programs offered at Greenville County Schools
Students living in West End are zoned for Greenville County Schools. They’ll attend Blythe Academy or A.J. Whittenberg Elementary School, which have A and A-minus ratings from Niche. A.J. Whittenberg Elementary was the first public school in the state to offer an engineering magnet program. A three-story STEM lab with solar panels was built on campus to allow students to build robots or products using a 3D printer. Magnet options are also available to middle school students who attend League Academy and Hughes Academy. League Academy gets an A from Niche and has magnet courses focused on communication arts. Students at A-minus-rated Hughes Academy can apply for the science and technology or Spanish partial immersion magnet programs. Students later filter into A-rated Greenville Senior High School, which has an Academy of Law, Finance, and Business offering courses in personal finance, business law and forensic science.
A.J. Whittenburg is a nationally recognized school in Greenville County.
Hughes Academy is one of Pleasant Valleys elementary options.

Rooftop bars, pet-friendly eateries and live music
The area’s history is showcased through textile warehouses converted into live music venues, boutiques and locally owned restaurants. Locals pack the rooftop at Hoppin’, a 100% self-pour bar serving beer, wine and cocktails. Folks stop by on Wednesdays for trivia nights. People can also get food delivered from Todaro Pizza next door. The pizzeria is a popular spot among dog owners who can bring their pups to have a meal on the turf-covered patio. Just steps away is Urban Wren, which started as a cheese and wine shop before expanding into a full-service restaurant serving small plates with an international twist. After a minor league baseball game, Rich says, “A lot of people will go to The Goat to have a beer with friends.” The sports bar is lined with TVs and serves classic pub fare. Grocery stores, including Publix, can be found downtown just over a mile east of West End. For those who want to avoid the downtown traffic, there’s a Harris Teeter 1 ½ miles south. In Greenville’s arts district, locals can listen to bands at Smiley’s Acoustic Café seven days a week. The Warehouse Theater offers an intimate experience, with only 150 seats that fill up quickly to watch various plays, from comedies to dramas.

Ideal greenspaces for recreation
Falls Park on the Reedy River provides an escape from the surrounding urban landscape of downtown Greenville. The uniquely positioned 32-acre space is highlighted by scenic nature trails and the suspended Liberty Bridge hovering over waterfalls and gardens. About a half-mile north toward the city’s arts district, residents find Unity Park, one of the newest additions in Greenville. The expansive greenspace gets packed during the summer when kids flock to the splash pad. There are also four playgrounds, and locals can access the Swamp Rabbit Trail for a walk or bike ride. The nearby Sterling Community Center offers an open-air gymnasium, a playground and a game room.

Catching a game at Fluor Field and more
Thousands of fans sing ‘Sweet Caroline’ during the 7th inning stretch at Fluor Field during a Greenville Drive game. The minor league baseball team is an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, so the stadium has been built to replicate Fenway Park, with its own 30-foot-high “Green Monster.” The neighborhood is a third of a mile southwest of the Peace Center Concert Hall, featuring over 300 shows a year by classical musicians, Broadway actors and pop singers. Folks visit the Art & Light Gallery on Aiken Street to see the works of over 50 local artists.
