Maugansville is a quiet community with everyday needs close by
Located between Hagerstown and Middleburg, Maugansville is a low-key community with a relaxed, suburban vibe. It’s mostly residential, but you’ll still find a handful of shops, restaurants and parks close by. This makes it straightforward to handle everyday errands without having to drive too far. With its low traffic and comfortable surroundings, Maugansville is considered well-suited for people who value convenience without sacrificing space.
How Maugansville home prices compare with nearby communities
Maugansville offers a wide range of home styles, from older historic houses to newer builds. Townhouses are popular and often have New Traditional designs with brick exteriors. They typically range from the low $200,000s to the upper $300,000s, and while HOAs are not common, those that exist usually charge around $100 a month for trash and lawn care. Older Cape Cods, bungalows and Colonials generally sell from the high $100,000s to the low $300,000s, while midcentury ranch-style houses fall in the low $200,000s to low $300,000s. Newer contemporary homes are usually priced from the upper $200,000s to the upper $400,000s. The median home price in Maugansville is in the low $300,000s, higher than Cearfoss, West End and Northwest Hagerstown but lower than Greencastle across the Pennsylvania border.
Students have access to magnet programs and nearby private schools
The neighborhood is served by the highly rated Washington County Public Schools, known for its STEM and arts magnet programs. Maugansville Elementary is in the east side of the community, making it an easy walk for some families. Grace Academy is also nearby on the west side, offering K–12 education with a Christian focus.
Central location with quick routes to I‑81 and downtown
Randy Wagner of Mackintosh Inc. Realtors says Maugansville’s central location is a big plus. “The interstate’s right there,” he says. “You’ve got easy access to everything, including downtown.” Interstate 81 is about five miles straight into Hagerstown, and Washington County also operates a bus for residents who need public transportation. Individual neighborhoods are fairly walkable thanks to regular sidewalks, but most errands will require a car.
Where residents go for groceries, dining and local treats
The neighborhood itself doesn’t offer much for shopping or dining. “There’s not much there,” Wagner says. “You’ve got an ice cream shop and a butcher.” That said, most everyday needs are only a few minutes away along Pennsylvania Avenue in Fountainhead-Orchard Hills, where you’ll find a Martin’s supermarket, antique shops, chain restaurants and other essentials. Locals love Maugansville Creamery for its cakes, snowballs and big scoops of Hershey’s ice cream. Featuring a full bar and regular live entertainment, Hoffman’s All American Grill is a go-to for fish tacos, ribs and Maryland crab soup.
Nearby parks and activity centers give residents ways to unwind
Beyond a few small neighborhood parks, there are plenty of nearby ways to get outside and have fun: Terrapin Park is a favorite for families thanks to its playground and basketball court.
Heavy Metal Playground lets visitors drive, dig and move tires using real construction equipment.
Fountain Head Country Club offers private access to an 18-hole golf course, pools, tennis courts and a fitness center.
