North End has a vibrant community with strong cultural ties in Hartford.
A neighborhood near Downtown Hartford
The streets of North End are lined with a mix of multi-family and single-family housing mostly developed between the turn of the 20th century and the 1950s, although new housing is popping up. The community has multiple mom-and-pop businesses, and residents are within walking distance of Keney Park. Locals appreciate the North End's convenient access to Downtown Hartford, where they can seek entertainment and employment opportunities. Residents have direct access to moderately rated public schools. "The residents are normally long-term whether they own or rent. The small mom-and-pop stores tend to thrive because they have a lot of repeat business," says Realtor Claude Cousins, Sr., who sells houses in the neighborhood with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices. Cousins has worked as a realtor in Hartford for 23 years.
Affordable single and multi-family homes
"The North End has a lot of multi-family houses. I would say about 90% are multi-family, so the density is high, and that's one of the biggest downsides of living there," Cousins says. Ranch-style homes built in the 1940s and 50s sell for between $150,000 and $215,000. Assessors value the neighborhood's four-to-eight-bedroom multi-family houses at between $290,000 and $400,000. Most of the multi-family houses were built in the early 20th century. A redevelopment project is currently underway on Main Street. Channel 3 Eyewitness News reported in December 2023 that it is the largest redevelopment project in the North End of Hartford in over 25 years. The $36 million project will bring 160 new houses and is expected to be completed within the next two years. In 2021, the Brackett Knoll subdivision added 14 income-restricted, two-family dwellings.

He added that Dunkin' Park has brought more traffic and business to Albany Avenue.
