Hilly landscapes and access to nature in High Bridge

High Bridge is a rural community west of the Snohomish and Snoqualmie rivers. Tall evergreens line its narrow back roads, which wind around the hilly landscape about 30 miles from downtown Seattle. The area appeals to homeowners who appreciate exploring nature or fishing in freshwater lakes. “It’s so picturesque, yet you’re not that far away from things,” says Sheila Lair, a broker with Keller Williams, who has lived in the area for more than 45 years. “In some places, you have views of the whole valley.”

High Bridge has a variety of homes and lot sizes

High Bridge has a variety of housing options, including spacious custom builds, split-levels from the 1970s and ’80s, plus some manufactured homes. Lots range in size from half an acre to more than 20 acres. Lakefront cabins and large Craftsman-inspired residences tend to list between $1.2 million and $2.2 million, while older ranch-style, split-level or manufactured homes go for $500,000 to $1.1 million. A few developments have community wells, and some rural homes use private wells.

Boat ramps, golf and park trails are close by for residents

Some High Bridge homeowners have lakes and forests in their backyards, and several outdoor recreation areas are open to the public. In the western portion of the community, boat ramps provide access to Lost Lake and Echo Lake, a popular spot for rainbow trout. Meanwhile, east of the Snoqualmie River, Crescent Lake tends to brim with bass and sunfish. Nearby Echo Falls Golf Club has an 18-hole course open to the public as well as an on-site restaurant. More than 30 miles of trails meander through the Lord Hill Regional Park, a 1,400-acre wilderness area just east of the Snohomish River.

Learning through the Snohomish or Monroe school districts

The far northern section of High Bridge is part of the Snohomish School District, which receives an A-minus rating from Niche. The rest of the community is served by the Monroe School District, rated B-minus. Students can start at Maltby Elementary School, rated B, followed by Hidden River Middle School and Monroe High School, both rated B-minus. Monroe High offers career and technical education programs as well as dual-enrollment courses through Everett Community College.

Monroe, Maltby and Woodinville provide retail and dining

The closest restaurant is Strikers’ Bar & Grille, located at the Echo Falls Golf Club, just a few miles from most homes. The small community of Maltby has an ice cream shop, a pizza place and The Maltby Café, a popular breakfast spot. In Monroe, less than 10 miles east, there’s a Fred Meyer, a Walmart Supercenter and a Safeway. Woodinville, a similar distance westward, has a Costco, big-box chains and a movie theater.

Car travel to Redmond and nearby services

Residents rely on cars to get around. Community thoroughfares, such as High Bridge and Echo Lake roads, link with state Route 522. Though some residents telecommute, Lair says most drive into nearby cities for work. Redmond, about 20 miles away, is home to Microsoft’s 500-acre headquarters. The Seattle Paine Field Air Terminal, 20 miles northwest, offers flights through Alaska and Frontier Airlines. The closest emergency room is at EvergreenHealth Monroe, 10 miles east.

Traffic from the Washington Midsummer Renaissance Faire

During July and August, the Washington Midsummer Renaissance Faire takes place just a few miles from High Bridge. Several thousand people attend the festival each weekend, so locals may notice a surge in traffic.
