Hitchcock is a growing town with waterfront views and new homes

Set along the shores of West Bay in Galveston, Texas, the hospitable community of Hitchcock is a bayside town full of beachfront homes and seaside vibes. With creative community murals alongside coastal views, it makes sense why new homes are coming to an area where you can live like you’re on vacation every day. “Hitchcock is in the path of predictable growth. A lot of people, in-state and out-of-state, are moving to this region, and as the I-45 corridor fills up, developers are looking further south into Galveston County for new projects,” says Devin DePascal, executive director of the Hitchcock Economic Development Corporation. “Hitchcock likely has the most available, developable land relative to any other community in the region at significantly lower prices.”

Ranch-style homes and stilted beach houses that fit many budgets

The ocean breeze brushes past your face as you stroll through the streets. Flourishing trees dot the area’s greenspace, providing shade from the sweltering sun while blooming trees freshly planted at new residences excitedly grow. Ranch-style homes sit on quiet stretches of road in the community, with massive lots of up to 2.5 acres and donning brick façades. Elevated beach houses are set along canals and waterways, giving incredible water views. Many of the beach houses are stilted and have attached garages underneath. New builds continue to pop up in the bay’s cozy cul-de-sacs in one- and two-story layouts, mainly in the traditional style with front and back patios. Some rows of new homes resemble patio homes, having similar aesthetics and identical lots, and inground pools are a preferred amenity for residents who’d rather take a dip in their backyard instead of the beach. All the community’s homes are priced from the high $200,000s to the high $300,000s. New builds generally cap off in the low $300,000s, while a handful of more lavish new homes top off at around $1.2 million.

Team sports, boating, rodeo events and Grandsport Speedway

The home of the Galveston County Fair & Rodeo since 1984, Jack Brooks Park is recognized as a historical site in Hitchcock. The kayak and canoe launch gets you out on the water, while the baseball, basketball and volleyball sports courts keep you active and on your feet. For those who enjoy exploring, the horseback riding and mountain bike trails take you through wooded areas, and the disc golf course is always a favorite pastime. Carbide Park houses the Wayne Johnson Community Center and has a Motion Wellness System playground for older adults. The first in the state, the wellness system focuses on outdoor activities and exercises for mobility, flexibility and balance maintenance among people aged 55 and older.

Live a life of luxury — at least for a little while — at Grandsport Speedway, a top Texas destination for exotic car testing. Offering the opportunity to get behind the wheels of top-notch sports cars, Grandsport has a caravan of brands like Cobra, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche, with a racetrack to drive them on. Also offering a BASE Motorsports Club and a Porsche Racing School, Grandsport gets the adrenaline going.

Residents are close to Interstate 45 and places like Downtown Houston

A quick drive down Interstate 45 takes you to Galveston Island, where you’ll find Moody Gardens, the Seawall and other fun activities to fill your weekends. “Great connectivity puts you within a 30-minute drive of Downtown Houston, Kemah and Galveston Island. We’re close to everything, but we still have that rural feel,” says DePascal.
