Low in crime and high in community
The neighborhood of Hopewell may as well be named Rockwell, as the streets, restaurants and homes look as if plucked off the canvas of a Norman Rockwell painting. "It's a great spot for those looking for a neighborhood they can get involved in," says Barbara Merry, the director of Hopewell Public Library. Rating a 1 out of a possible 10 for crime, it's fantastic for families and those wanting a feeling of security. Safety comes at a price, however, as homes in Hopewell are almost $400,000 more expensive than in other neighborhoods of Mercer County. Free of traffic, parking meters and light or noise pollution, the area is ideal for those looking for quiet American living while staying close to employers in nearby cities.
Fresh ingredients from surrounding farms
Filled with natural light overlooking the sun-filled patio, The Pleasant Grill is a pleasant spot to grab a quick meal. Friendly counter service dishes out sandwiches, salads and tacos, and a display case filled with deserts and snacks is there for an even faster grab-and-go option. Brick Farm Tavern is the neighborhood's spot for fine dining. Walls of windows overlook the estate and duck pond of the property, which patrons can enjoy from inside the colonial building with exposed stone walls. One thing is a staple at the restaurant, and that's incorporating the freshest ingredients from local farms and bread baked in-house. While a few small grocery stores and pharmacies are in the downtown area, residents must drive a bit to find any large shopping plaza or mall, like those in Trenton and Princeton.
When visiting Hopewell, make sure to stop by Pleasant's Grill for warm food and service.

Learning to swim at a natural quarry
Outdoorsy locals can take advantage of the open nature stretches surrounding the downtown area by visiting St. Michael's Farm Preserve. Walking trails run through cow farms, leading to woods filled with wooden bridges and creeks. The most striking part of the preserve is the giant sculpture of a man reaching out from the ground as if pulled beneath the surface. To cool off, locals head to Hopewell Quarry. The quarry has floating docks, diving boards, spots for cliff jumping and a pool with a gradual increase in depth, perfect for those learning to swim. After a dip, swimmers can dry off on the sand volleyball court or prepare hamburgers and hotdogs on charcoal grills beside picnic tables.

Architectural diversity at its finest
Prairie-style houses and Victorians that date back to the late 1800s are near the center of Hopewell. As the streets lead outwards to the sparse land of the town, the variety of homes grows. Cape Cods and bilevels branch off from the main roads, and in cluster neighborhoods, homebuyers can find revivals of every kind. Farmhouses, Colonial revivals, and Tudor-inspired estates sit on large lawns, usually boasting over an acre. With inground pools and many bedrooms, these houses are generally priced at the higher end of the scale, reaching $2.5 million for the most opulent properties. Some homes sell for as low as $375,000. Still, with a median price of $745,000, buyers can expect to spend a sizeable amount for the privacy Hopewell offers.

Each student gets plenty of attention
Right in the center of the downtown is Hopewell Elementary School, where most young students begin learning. Rated an A-minus, the school is walkable for many and has an impressively low student-teacher ratio of 9 to 1. With the same ratio, Timberlane Middle School is rated an A by Niche. Students then come together with their neighbors from Pennington and the rest of the valley to attend Hopewell Valley Central High School. The school is rated an A-plus and has an excellent college prep program.
Timberlane Middle School earns an impressive A score on Niche.
Hopewell Central Valley High School earns an impressive A+ rating on Niche as well.

Walk around town and drive to work in Trenton
"The downtown area is walkable. People can walk to coffee shops, stores and little markets," Merry says. "We recently lowered the speed limit so that the streets are even safer for those walking." However, sidewalks are rare outside of the downtown area, and the sprawling farmlands make it hard to get around without a car. There is no transit in town, but commuters can expect to get to Trenton in under half an hour. Trenton-Mercer Airport is a short drive away, and the nearest hospital is in Princeton, 8 miles southeast of Hopewell.
The small size of the Trenton Mercer Airport ensures that you won't have to wait in long lines.
Hopewell residents can enjoy easy, low traffic commutes to major roadways.
