Families flock to Summerfield Place
Family is the draw for Summerfield Place, a neighborhood just a few miles southwest of downtown Houma. "It's truly family-oriented; the houses have a lot of space, and it's in an area with A-rated schools," says Realtor Shanisha Fletcher with eXp Realty. "A lot of families move into the community because of the amount of offshore oil rig jobs here." In addition to the quiet, residential feel, families find parks within walking distance and schools just around the block. While the family-friendly vibe is the main draw, Summerfield Place is still desirable for buyers in general, providing space to grow and proximity to downtown dining and entertainment.
Classic suburban residences outside major flood zones
This suburban subdivision features classic paved sidewalks and tidy yards decorated with flowering mulberry and towering pine trees. Most homes were built in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and many are renovated before going on the market. There is occasionally a small inventory of new construction or lots available. Residences are primarily ranch-style or New Traditional with neoclassical or Cape Cod-inspired exteriors. List prices typically range between $255,000 and $450,000, depending on the updates performed. New construction usually lists between $550,000 and $975,000. Summerfield Place is susceptible to flooding, but "the neighborhood is at a higher elevation, so most homes aren't in a heavy flood zone, save the street closest to Bayou Black," Fletcher says. Residents must purchase private flood and home insurance or enroll in the National Flood Insurance Program, though high deductibles have recently caused residents difficulty.
